The idea is just throwing a bone to small-market and media-market teams who don't have the financial resources and/or savvy to contend yearly like the Yankees and Red Sox.

If you cut down the season then you can throw out most of the records.

I like it just he way it is.....imo make it somewhat of an accomplishment to make the playoffs.

 

Look at the NBA, the regular season imo is pointless :, not really an accomplishment at all to make the playoffs, imo way too many teams advance to post season. They should not even have a regular season. Just start the "season" with the first round of playoffs and let it run through the championship series.
