September 22, 200917 yr Yep! My parents would have killed me, and I mean that literally, if someone in my small town had referred to me or my brother as hoods! Remember when your parents did not want you to "hang on the corner"? Only "hoods" did that. We also had a few "rumbles" in my neighborhood when I was growing up.

Now .. for those of us who remember "hoods" ...this would not be a one for one comparison. However, "e-mo's" have taken the place of the "hood" from the past. Yestersday hood has basically "evolved" into today's E-Mo. They act a little different, dress a little different, shun society, etc.

They act a little different, dress a little different, shun society, etc. I'm sorry, but what most of us think of as a "hood" resembles whiny emo kids in no way, shape or form. Actually, the hoods are more likely to be beating up the emo kids than actually being one of them.

September 22, 200916 yr No comparison at all... Come on guys--I think that you/Jim Schue need to read where I said something along the lines of yesterdays hoods have "evolved" into todays e-mo kids. Or .. better yet .. maybe "taken the place of" would be a better way to describe it. There just are not a lot of hoods now-a-days (at least there are not here in NKY). Plus .. there are a lot more similarities than either of you are acknowledging. (I can't believe that I just wrote any of that--and yes--I am embarrassed that I typed it).

I still don't see where you're getting this comparison/evolution thing. A hoodlum is a hoodlum no matter what era it is -- someone who has no problems running afoul of authority/the law. Nowadays they would just be called a thug. But a hoodlum is someone who would generally strike fear in straight-laced folks. How sad would you be if an emo kid struck fear in you? No correlation whatsoever.
