I love D Lee, but a couple of seasons ago we could have traded him for Adrian Gonzalez, that's a trade I wish Hendry would have made.

I want to see Hoffpauier and Fox in the every day lineup. They need a quality second baseman in the worst way.

Yup. They need Hoff in RF, and Fox at 1st. Trade D. Lee while he has value, trade Z, Bradley, and Soriano and get some prospects, rebuild the farm and sign some free agents.

Lee has no value. Power hitting first basemen are a dime a dozen in the majors these days.

 

I cant see any takers for Bradley. The Cubs would be better off voiding his contract and paying him the $20 million they owe and just eat the loss.

 

The same with Soriano. He may have some value in the AL because he can DH. But they wont get much in return.

 

Zambrano is the wild card. But if he cant turn it around, his value slips as well.

 

They mortgaged the future with the contracts they gave and they are going to pay for it for the next couple of years with nothing to show for it. At least when the Diamondbacks did it, they won a WS title.

Hoffpauir isn't an everyday player ... period. He's a platoon player at best, but more likely a fourth or fifth outfielder, backup first baseman and pinch hitter.

It's hard to say someone isn't an everyday player until they are given the chance to play every day. I never would have though Theriot was an every day player when he first came up. They got rid of Casey McGhee at third because they didn't see him as an every day third basemen and he is tearing it up with Milwaukee. I see nothing wrong with giving guys like Hoffpauir and Fox a chance to play every day. Make them earn it, but at least give them the chance.

Theriot showed an ability to get on base in the minors and clearly deserved a shot, plus the offensive standard for a middle infielder isn't as high as it is for other positions.

 

McGehee was let go because he wasn't going to play over Aramis Ramirez.

 

Hoffpauir didn't start knocking on the door for a major league job until he was 28 years old, for one thing, and his sub-.300 OBP for the rest of the year just exacerbates the Cubs' biggest problem over the years.
