September 14, 200917 yr Closing in on the final 19 games for the Braves, it will basically take a miracle and a lot of help for the Braves to make the playoffs. They have already surpassed the total of wins they achieved last year, and I believe this team is vastly improved from last seasons as well. Braves beat the tough teams but seem to always fall to the lower teams, if they are to make a push that can't happen since they are playing the Mets, and Washington (6 games) over the course of the next few weeks. Braves are off tonight and will open a 3 game series against the Mets on Tuesday. Mets @ Atlanta: Misch vs. Hanson Mets @ Atlanta: Parnell vs. Lowe Mets @ Atlanta: Figueroa vs. Jurrjens I think the Braves will have the pitching to sweep the Mets, but as it has been for most of the season, it will come down to the Braves ability to score.
September 14, 200917 yr Yeah, at 7.5 out in the division and 6.5 out in the wild card, they're probably done. Of all the losses, the home sweep to the Reds will haunt them the most. Two losses on the road to the Marlins, a team you're competing with for the division and wild card? That you can take. But you can't get swept at home by a team 13 games below .500 coming into the series and expect to do anything. The Braves needed to get at least two of those to have a realistic chance. Had they done that, they'd be 5.5 out of the division heading into the week, and theoretically could've gotten to just 2.5 out of the division with a sweep of the Phils.

September 14, 200917 yr Author So the Braves went from most likely picking up Hudson's option, to being not likely to picking it up, to now either picking it up or just resigning him at a cheaper price. Hudson and Atlanta both seem to want this to work out. In my opinion the Braves would be a ton better with a rotation like this: 1. Jurrjens 2. Hanson 3. Hudson 4. Vazquez 5. Medlen or some FA IMO the Braves need to trade Lowe and/or Kawakami to free up cap space in order to either sign or trade for some big powered offense. If the Red Sox go after Fielder, then the Braves should push hard for Adrian Gonzalez if they are unable to resign LaRoche. They should attempt to sign Billy Wagner as well, Soriano and Gonzalez never panned out the way the Braves hoped. Both were inconsistent, but still have a ton of talent.

September 16, 200917 yr Author Braves win streak reaches 5 games as the Braves beat the Mets 6-0 behind Tommy Hanson and Adam LaRoche. Braves have allowed the 4th fewest runs in all of baseball at 575, only behind St. Louis, LA Dodgers, and San Fransisco.
September 16, 200917 yr Hanson hasn't allowed a run in 17 innings and has allowed only 2 in the last 24 innings. He is very very good. LaRoche has been on fire lately too, McLouth too. The Braves are on fire, let's hope it stays that way.
