The issue of length of quarters was brought up in the Highlands/Boone Co Frosh thread and I was curious what teams across the state were doing at their various levels of play.

 

Here's what I know:

 

Varsity= 12 minute quarters

Freshmen= 8 or 10 minute quarters depending on who you talk to.

Louisville CSAA= 6 minute quarters at all levels (ridiculous imo, and don't get me started on 70yd fields)

Louisville Optimist= 10 minute quarters

 

What does your team/league do?

Varisty are 12 minute Quarters

JV are 10 mins

Fresh at 8 mins

 

 

Anything under grades 9-12 is at local discretion.

Boyle co freshman were 10 min quarters last night.

I was at a frosh game several years ago in Bell County between North Laurel and Bell Co. They played 6 minute quarters, continous clock. The field they were on was used for little league and they wanted it over before the little league games started. It was a waste of trip IMHO. They couldn't play on the HS field as it had rained, and Coach Hilton didn't want his field damaged with a big home game that week. That, I understand, but 6 minute quarters for a 1 hour trip was a total waste of time. Both teams were really just getting warmed up and it was over.

 

Later that season, they played at North Laurel and played 10 minute quarters. It was more fair to both teams that way IMHO.

 

I would like to see all frosh/jv games at 10 minute quarters, but I understand that it is up to the home team.

Raceland/Ashland freshman last night was 8 minute quarters. The scoreboard operator had 10 and the Raceland coaches requested 8.

No. ky can either be 8 or 10 minutes depending on what the coaches want to do. They changed the 8 minute rule last year to have the option of playing 10 minutes.
