Can you hunt along the Ohio river? I have never bird hunted at all and I didn't know if there was any where around NKY to hunt.

Plenty of places within a half hour or so of here even. Your best choice is to e mail and or meet up with a game warden for this area though because and then they can actaully highlight the areas for you. There are several tricky areas around here where it goes in and out of city limits and not!:thumb:

Out on the Ohio somewhere in Indiana. Not completely sure yet.

I'll be somewhere within Tanners Creek on my first trip of the year!

Dad, grandpa, a hunting buddy, and I are hitting water on Sunday!

Several birds flying right now. Not many really wanting to work, but seeing that many birds this early in the year was encouraging!

I went to a lake in Southern Ohio this past Saturday. I didn't see much, a few ducks and a group of geese.

Went today. Killed a drake mallard a hen mallard and a drake woodie. Don't ask me how we didn't come away with geese. That was unbelievable.

I got out on black Friday and we killed 2 birds, and weren't able to find 2 cripples in the choppy waters. Got out this morning and dad and I bagged 1 drake wood duck, 2 drake buffle heads, 1 hen buffle head, 2 drake mallards and a hen mallard. One heck of a day!

Do you think these were local birds or were they migrating birds?

Friday most likely local. Monday's worked like migrating birds. Probably came in ahead of the weather front.

I've never been waterfowl hunting, but it sounds like a great time. Anyone have suggestions on the how-to's and where-to's for someone interested in starting out?

(I'm up in NKY, so locations in Northern/Central Kentucky are ideal.)

Head straight down route 8 toward Petersburg Road. Get to know a farmer and hunt their field. It is the best way and it's a close place to see if you enjoy it or not. I hunt down that way quite a bit.

Got out in Indiana today. 2 geese and 3 ducks. Boat battery was dead so someone beat us out to our first choice of a spot and of course they had bagged a limit when we got back to the ramp.:irked: Darn cold weather zapped both batteries and had to jump one with the truck.

Headed out again right now. It's been a pretty slow year thus far. Counting ducks and geese through 12 trips we have killed 69 birds. Hopefully it picks up today.
