sportsnut859 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I wanted this to be a place for us waterfowl hunters to hang out and discuss our hunts. I know there are more of us than me on here so where are you?:dancingpa Hopefully the creative name doesn't get changed or get me in trouble lol.
oldrambler Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I am not a waterfowl hunter myself but I welcome any hunting/fishing threads. :thumb: Our hunting and fishing rights are more often than not under attack anymore. As sportsmen, we all need to band together and promote and protect our lifestyle that we grew up with. There are gettng to be more an more anti hunting/anti fishing groups around. IMO the answer is to get more youth interested and involved. Kids today only hunt the "malls"and other concrete jungles . Many of them have not grown up with hunting/fishing as a second nature like we did. God has given us a great thing in the outdoor lifestyle and we need to keep it going.

Ryle74 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I'm fairly new to the sport of waterfowling. This will be my 3rd year. I've been addicted since that first flock flew in. I've always been a big deer hunter and always looked forward to deer season to come around, but now I can't wait for September to come around for early woodies, teals, and geese. I hunt in Ohio and Kentucky. Like I said, I'm 100% addicted.

Not always me because I'm in class and other things, but dad and grandpa always get out. We know several reliable spots in all 3 states! I don't hunt the early season too much. We're not a major enough flyway in this area. Come the winter I'll be out there. Especially if it's good and cold and those ducks are moving on in.

Being new and not knowing a whole lot about the sport yet, I don't really have all that many reliable spots. My hunting partner, which is the guy that really got me into the sport, just moved back to Danville to get married, so I'm really not sure how this season is going to go for me. My best spot is a public lake in Southern Ohio. I'll probably go up there this weekend to hunt teal and geese. I've killed a couple of geese in the early season up there. I hunted the flooded Ohio River one time with a couple of guys but that scared the crap out me in that 16 ft. boat.

Mainly hunt the river in various areas and sometimes Brookville lake in Indiana. What days can you hunt? Are you a weekend hunter?

I'm going to Ohio this weekend for early goose and teal.
sportsnut859 Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Yeah. I'm a teacher, so weekends and holidays. I'm going to Ohio this weekend for early goose and teal. Weekends are rough, but I'm going into teaching so I'll be there sooner or later. It's just so nice when you get to go during the week and there is noone else around. It makes it easy to go where the birds want to sit rather than being stuck like the weekends.
Ryle74 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I do tend to get "sick" every once in a while...:thumb:

Ryle74 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I think I could have done fairly well this past weekend if not for the 15-20 boats on the lake fishing. I had birds fly by my spread all morning until I finally packed up and went home. I had a guy bring his boat 20 yards from my spread, talk to me, and then start fishing right by where I was at. I wasn't too happy about that one. I should have unloaded a couple of my 3 1/2's into the air to see how he liked that. Oh well, it was still a good weekend...I ended up using it as a training day for my dog.
Muddawg Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I've never done this type of hunting but would love to try it to some day. As many have posted prior I hear it's addicting!

I have never bird hunted at all and I didn't know if there was any where around NKY to hunt.
