Russell 37 Greenup County 0

I was at the game sitting in the Reserved seats along with many I go to church with. I, too, was one that thought Russell was down this year. I think I was wrong. They played great team ball. Congrats to Russell.

I wish I had gotten the chance to meet you.

I saw in another thread where Nathan Taylor is your cousin. I love the way he plays basketball and I figured he would bring something good to the table on the football field as well, given the passion he shows on the basketball court.

It looks like he has found an important role on this year's football team, being the punter and a very good special teams player. He even caught a TD pass last week as well.

I'm a Greenup grad and I'm not trying to avoid any post or threads but like I said earlier it's hard to post anything when there is nothing good to post on. I know that coach Copley is doing the best he can with what he has to work with but the biggest problem with Greenup's football team right now is the lack of athletes. Greenup is a bigger school than both Russell and Raceland but yet every year both of those teams put out quality products while Greenup puts out at best average teams. This all comes down to the fact that Greenup, unlike other schools, discourage their kids to play all sports. At Greenup your best athletes play only one sport and that is it. Eric Craft is the only "athlete" in resent memory to play all sports at GCHS and excelled at all three. This is not saying that he is the best athlete to come through Greenup but atleast he did play all three. Usually at Greenup you have just your baseball group or your football group or your basketball group and the three never entertwine. Check the rosters, for that matter check bleachers that is where that is where most of Greenup's best athletes were last nite.

Winning will bring the atheletes out. Try winning and people will want to be a part of whatever program. Don't start blaming the baseball and basketball team. Playing 3 sports is not the answer.

As for the GCHS fans, kids .....my best and only advice would be to stay positive and good things will eventually happen. Negativity breeds negativity and will spread like wildfire if you let it. GC has been beaten by two very good fotball teams and programs in Ashland and Russell, certainly no disgrace in losing to either one. Keep all on one page and one goal and things will change. Go back to all the blame game and you know what will happen, you have been down that road before.

Those are just my opinions and I am not trying to blast or call out anyone.

Very good advice.:thumb:

Just my 2 cents, maybe scheduling Ashland and Russell to begin the season is not a great way to try and implement a new offense and new attitude. I am not saying to avoid either, just open a little more easy. JMO.

Ryan, I really wish he would have played football throughout high school. He was really a good JFL back but for whatever reason, didn't want to play until this year.

I will agree to a point, but I believe this year team has the personnel to get the job done. I am sure there still a few players out there that could help, but I say every school has a few like that. GC may have a few more in cateory.
