Track the Reds (2nd Half- Week 7)

If Lehr is in the rotation next year we are in for a lot of trouble. He gives up to many hits and walks. He manages to get out of the jams but that's not something I think he can continue to keep doing.

Stewart is the only one that is gone that I have an issue with.

But he stuck out 3 guys that one inning.

I don't think he's the leading candidate, but he's 3-1 this year in the big's and dominated AAA this season.

I think he has earned the opportunity to compete for that 5th spot. I also think that Owings would be best suited in the bullpen.

Wait and see if he's not a very effective set up man before long. Rolen will just continue to eat payroll and get closer to 40. He won't be around when the Reds are ready to contend again.

In his last 4 appearances he's went 7 IP 6 H 2 ER 3 BB 5 Ks 2.57 ERA.

He's had a decent year. He's 32 (I think) & he doesn't have the "stuff" that people look for; however, he's been able to get people out.

I'd give him a shot at the rotation. Let him compete with guys like Owings, Fisher & Maloney for the 5th spot next year.

Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Bailey and???

Are you sure Bailey will be able to hold down a rotation spot for the whole year? He's had a few good starts but he's still got a 6.82 ERA .276 BA against, 1.5 HRs allowed per 9 and 4.8 BBs per 9.

So your all upset over a possible set up guy?

No, not just over the set up guy. Stewart being included in the trade is an even bigger disappointment. The fact that in the offseason, when Rolen to Cincy rumors first started, Reds minor league expert Doug Gray did not want to trade Stewart for Rolen straight up doesn't help any. The Blue Jays were in full on salary dump mode. There is no way the Reds should have given up ANY major league ready arms. The ONLY way the trade makes sense is if you think the Reds can realistically contend in 2010. If you think they find a SS, LF, CF and a replacement for Volquez then maybe they can. If not, then Rolen won't even be around when the Reds are ready to make some noise. Its almost like Jocketty said "Sure we'll be glad to take Rolen's 2010 salary off your hands and since you're being so generous by all means take two quality arms while you're at it." Totally unnecessary for the Reds to do that for a guy that, while an upgrade, is not enough of an upgrade to make them a contender next season and will be gone in 2011. It may seem like a little thing but moves like this are why the Reds organization is currently one of the 5 worst in the Major Leagues.

Here's a good analysis of the trade: Reds Whiff in Rolen Trade

Homer was nasty last night.

I think Bailey is in the rotation next year.

He has shown flashes of brilliance this year. He's still very young, but he's looked good recently.

Kershaw is mowing the Reds down. I think he has 8 K's already.

Reds were leading 2-0 on a 2 run HR by Mcdonald.

Kemp hit a solo shot & then the Dodgers had 2 singles up the middle that Janish was unable to make a play on. 2-2.

Earlier this year I think I predicted another 75-79 win season. We won't even get that many.

Reds lose to the Dodgers today in extras, 3-2.
