How would you feel if it WERE your family?

 

It's not, and baring some sort of disaster, it never will be, so I don't even bother to think abou it, but I wouldn't want or look for the government to solve the problem.

This will come across as heartless probably, but like I said, it's not my problem, so I don't worry about it unless it impacts me or my family.

 

You do realize the rest of the country exists and that you should be concerned about them, correct? You're not that self-absorbed, right?

 

You can't have a "screw them" attitude . Its pure selfishness and goes against what normal society believes.

 

Scenario: Welfare mom with 5 kids all under the age of 9 has no insurance. One of her children becomes seriously ill and needs treatment.

 

Your response to her would be what?

By the same token, you'd be wasting your time hoping for the "free market" to solve the problem on its own. Like you, they see no problem with the status quo, which is sad.

 

I like how conservative-types rail on about the "sanctity of life," but don't worry too much about preserving lives once they're already here.

Do you realize how many people have lost their jobs over the last few years? Do you realize that could be YOUR family without a job, without health insurance? Just because it isn't affecting you now, doesn't mean it COULDN'T affect you later.

If we are to interpet his previous comments about tax payer money being used he's against them getting help in the emergency room or anywhere if they can't pay for it.

I'd feel terrible for the child, try to organize a fundraiser or something of that nature possibly, but I would never ask for the government to give me a handout.

Well let's see, my mom only works because she's bored sitting around the house, and my dad is a year out from retirement, hoping they offer a package before then. My brother and I are in 2 of the most secure job industries in the country, and my younger brother is going to be going to med school next fall....Like I said, not very likely it's ever going to impact us.

What if she were married, had 5 children, her husband left her? Did you ever stop to think that some people who are on welfare weren't always on welfare? Did you ever stop to think that there ARE extenuating circumstances that occur in someone's life that lands them there?

Well, your post tells me everything I need to know. You don't have a family of your own that you're responsible for. You aren't old enough or experienced enough to know that there are no 100% in security. You are still young, and believe you are invincible...no health problems will happen to you, nothing can touch you.

 

I'll bet the line workers at the auto industry felt that way. The mortgage brokers, the Fruit of the Loom employees and Cintas employees.....Nothing in life is 100% secure....not even your health and well-being.

If I remember correctly, you have medical issues of your own, which makes your stance even less sensible. What happens when your insurance drops you because you're too much of a risk?
