Noone on here has made that claim, I agree. Whoever came up with the statistical odds on this happening however, are assuming pure random chance on mutations. That is not neccesarily the case, thus the math they used is worthless.

Explain more. I'm missing your point.

Raising 100 strands to the fourth power to get the probablility is assuming that all mutations are totally random. It is possible, if not probable, that some mutations are more likely than others. Thus, the equation becomes much more complex, and the previous math is totally invalid.

I'm not an expert on DNA (or any matter of science :lol:). The probability given is merely a "particularly lucky combination of DNA." I won't pretend to know how many specific combinations of DNA would result in a unicellular organism (since DNA is essentially genetic blueprints, right). Just expressing that even the smallest strand of DNA, let alone the smallest actual eukaryote, required an incredible amount of chance.

This may have been suggested earlier (I didn't read through them all) but there is a major flaw comparing a deck of cards to the possible creation of life and the chances associated with them. With the deck of cards we are assuming one shuffle. How many shuffles did we get with the possible creation of life, I don't know that we know that answer but I would assume that every second where conditions were right the possiblity of life could happen, which could have been 100s of trillions (or possibly even so many as to be greater than the odds) of "shuffles" in that case it isn't so unlikley that the right combination came up.

For about 10 billion years it was preparing for life, and Earth was not cool enough for life until 3.8 billion years ago. What happened? Life began almost immediately when life was capable on Earth. Given the enormous odds above of even the smallest strand of DNA (not taking into account proteins and other vital cell characteristics), what is the probability that life occured right when possible? The "number of seconds" is a finite number (FWIW, 100 trillion seconds is just over 3,000 years).

But you also have to factor in the number of places that this could occur. It's not as if you can consider that number to be "1" for Earth.
