July 19, 200917 yr ^ Both were very moving. I was very young at the time but I can remember him delivering both of those newscast like it was yeasterday. That imo says alot about the impact a person has when a reporter can be remembered as well as the story, especially when I was so young (I am 51 now). I know that I couldn't tell you who the reporters were that I heard other major news stories from and they were not close as long ago as those two were. Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, Dan Rather and Katie Couric are imo jokes. Most if not all fail in comparison to Cronkite though. Tim Russert was another that I really liked and respected.

Walter Cronkite would not have the same amount of fanfare and success today. Its a completely different world. Today's anchors are challenged by the fact that we don't have to wait til 6:30 to get our news. We get it as soon as it happens. Cronkite would be no better than any of those you mention. I'd bet he would be considered a prime example of the liberal media.

The others, not. We can both only assume as to how he would be. Remember that back then it was very new. He's human. He would have adapted to the ways of the world. Heck, in today's world where the news division needs to be profitable (unlike then) he wouldn't even be the same Walter Cronkite that we know. Russert can't be used IMO. He wasn't an anchor or newscaster.

"Pinko commie liberal" is a phrase I think would be tossed about a lot.
July 20, 200917 yr 60 Minutes dedicated the whole show to him tonight and it was very well done. Definitely worth watching if you can catch it on again.

He wasn't an anchor or newscaster. I watched "Uncle Walter" on CNN's Larry King. He said that he didn't think he would make it as big in today's new's world.
