It is essentially the largest tax increase in American history, for all Americans, not just the top 5% under the guise of a climate bill.

The time frame is more agressive, but the whole idea of selling credits was left out. One of the biggest compromises involved the near total elimination of an administration plan to sell pollution permits and raise more than $600 billion over a decade Leaving the selling of credits out is huge. That was probably the most expensive part of the whole thing to the US economy. I doubt this will pass the Senate though.
June 27, 200917 yr Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won't pinch wallets, behind the scenes they've acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them. I find this interesting. Who's watching out for me in Corruptshington?

Australia who elected a president similar to Obama wanting to combat global warming has sidelined their "going green". One of their reps came to the USA and quizzed the Obama team looking for assurances about combating global warming...he got no answers and went back home a nd voted "no". Spain which has aggressively "gone green" and is one of the world leaders in producing windmills and such for energy presently has 18% unemployment. FOr every job going green it created, they lost two jobs. This bill makes no sense.

June 29, 200917 yr Im fairly conservative but Hannity grates on you and is over the top at times. Limbaugh is more digestible than Hannity. That's like saying bull rectums are more digestible than Horse rectums.

If you are reading this on a handheld and can't read Wikipedia's wonderful pie chart, here is the breakdown: 48.9% -- Coal 20% -- Natural Gas 19.3% -- Nuclear 1.6% -- Petroleum Got that? A tick over 88% of U.S. electricity comes from three sources: coal, gas and nuclear. Petroleum brings the contribution of so-called "evil" energy--that is, energy that is carbon- or uranium-based--to almost 90%. The remaining sources of U.S. electricity, the renewables, are, by comparison, tiny players: 7.1% -- Hydroelectric 2.4% -- Other Renewables 0.7% -- Other Hydroelectric accounts for 70% of renewable energy in America. But, of course, hydro is mostly tapped out. Almost every dam that could be built has been built. Ironically enough, political opposition to building more dams comes from the same crowd of tree huggers who oppose coal, gas and uranium. The Waxman-Markey bill that passed the House on Friday by a 219-212 margin will punitively tax energy sources that contribute 90% of current U.S. electricity (or 71% if you want to leave out nuclear). The taxes will be used to subsidize the 10% renewable contributors (but really just 3% after you leave out hydro). In other words, Waxman-Markey is betting the future of U.S. electricity production on sources that now contribute 3% or supply 10 million Americans with electricity. That's enough juice for the people in Waxman's Los Angeles County. Or, if you prefer, for Nancy Pelosi's metro San Francisco plus Markey's metro Boston. Well, what about electricity for the other 295 million? You can't get there from here with Waxman-Markey. At very best, solar, wind and cellulosic ethanol will make 20% contributions by 2025. The smart money would bet on 10%. This has such a trickle down effect, I don't see how anyone cant see it. What do you think Duke is going to do when they have to pay millions of dollars? June 30, 200917 yr When John Boehner was reading part of the bill in the House last Friday, he read a portion where a where a government official would come to your house and evaluate its energy efficiency. If it does not pass, you would not be allowed to sell your house until up grades are made. Is this true? If it is, talk about constitutional violations of private property rights. Private property and its protection are at the core of our freedom.

Democrats elected to fix the economy not the environment. He has already broken so many campaign promises... It is time, and Robert Gibbs even said as much that the Stimulus package be judged now. It has been bad...it is no longer a Bush problem, or something that he inherited...sure it was not good. Compare the numbers. Unemployment is creeping to 10% and the stim package was to put shovels in the ground immediately. People are not spending money. The entire stim package is borrowed money which is creating a rise in interest rates, and inflation is on the horizon. There is no money for his health care...the utility tax bill is facing a major uphill battle in the senate..

Hannity is correct, the passing of this nonsense bill would amount to the biggest tax on all the America people ever, the highest energy pricies for ever and would insure that the ression will never end. It must not pass period. It would have no effect on the enviornment anyway. It is unbelievable what is in this 1,300 page bill that no one has had time to read yet is is being pushed down our throats.You won't even be able to sell your house under this bill until it has been inspected by the Feds and found to be 100% enviornmentaly friendly compliant under their standards which no one knows.Totally unbelievable like everything else Obama has done.
