I'm saying yes, for now. Obama is quickly giving FDR a run for his money!

 

He hasn't even been in office for a year...come on.. :ohbrother:

Here are reasons IMO that FDR is held in such high regard:

 

1. Communication. He was an effective communicator to a desperate people. It's that simple sometimes.

 

2. As per the above, he was the leader of the nation during the War. Add to that "he died on the job," and you have a formula for popularity.

 

3. Longevity. He was a populist president who was elected four times. There was a whole generation that literally spent the majority of their experience not knowing someone other than FDR "could" be President.

 

 

Are all of these worthy of something? Maybe not to be hailed the greatest but I think they preclude him from being considered the worst. I think the over-arching theme I miss in your argument cch is the leadership factor and the way he led the US through World War II. Most consider his untimely death as one of the great tragedies of the conflict because he did not see the country to a victory through which he had led them as the US leader atop the coalition of Allies.

Jimmy Carter would have to be up there.

 

You get no argument from me on this one. Good man, bad president.
