According to Ch 27 news tonight Robert Hammond will be leaving West Jessamine and be the new coach at Letcher Central. A announcement is expected next week. The reason he is leaving West Jessamine is that he wanted into administration and they were unwilling or couldn't accommodate his wishes.

Who will have the better team next season, West Jess. or Letcher? I believe they both have shots at getting to the Sweet 16, don't they?

Not sure, LCC may have trouble coming out of the 14th region. Perry Central, Hazard, and Knott Co are usually the top teams year in and out.

Agree, West by far has the easiest region and should return to Rupp next season, but LCC has the team and with a break here and there could also make it to Rupp.

LCC has a few good younger groups coming up over the next few years... It appears though that LCC may primarily be a football school, and alot of these players are football players also.

Sure does seem like Hammonds and the guy that coaches Cooper(Sullivan, I believe) have moved from place to place over the last 5-6 years more than any Coach I can remember. Sure don't believe in stability.

What was the reason LCC's Coach left with such a good thing going? Did he get another coaching job?

It is called moving up the ladder. Can't blame a guy for that. I am not talking about coaching, but in his teaching profession....went into adm. Jassamine wouldn't, or unable to allow him to move up, so he went else where so he could advance and he could coach too. Good move for him professionally and his family.

Plus some fail to realize that Coach Hammonds is originally a mountain boy. So this is even a move closer to home.

Sullivan was supposed to be going home as well when he went to Covington Holmes. I'd give them both 3 years max at their individual schools, but wouldn't be surprised if either re- surfaced in the 10th region again.

I agree, talked to him at State tourney and told him how proud I was of all he has done in his short coaching career. Very classy indididual indeed.

Congrats to Coach Hammonds on the hire. IMO he is coming into a program that is in a rebuilding year for 2009-2010. Has a lot of young talent and kids that are athletes. Needs to choose his assistants wisely and have help in working to keep developing the younger kids. LCC this year should finish in the top 10 in the 14th, but next year should be a contender for the 14th region title. Alot of good teams this year in the 14th in Hazard, KCC, PCC, Buckhorn, and Cordia ( some I probably left out). Good luck Cougars.
