Covington Catholic 4 Dixie 2

Featured Replies

Krumme pitched for CCH and went 6 2/3 giving up 2 runs. Schlagbaum (sp?) got the final out of the game.

Stansberry pitched for Dixie going the distance and gave up the 4 earned runs. 1 run came on a solo shot by Martin and 2 more gave from a 2 run HR by Maile on a pitch that might have been less than an inch off the ground.

More later and I'm sure theoldguy has plenty to add.

With the exception of about 3 pitches Stansbury pitched well.

Is he a junior?

The pitch to Maile wasn't bad. It's like NKU said it was very low. Well below the knees, Luke just muscled it out.

I do believe so.

It was indeed low. A curveball that sat on the ground is what he hit. He is a good enough hitter though to put it out.

As we told the players after the game, we still haven't figured out how to pitch to Luke.

Sorry for the lack of posting on this game, but sometimes there just isn't enough time in a day to do everything you want/need/have to do and yesterday was just one of those days for me.

I will try late tonight to post the stats and make some comments but.....

I do believe so.

Another outstanding pitching effort by both teams pitchers but the bats of CovCath proved to be much stronger than Dixie's on this day.

Dixie scores first with a HR over the 360 mark by #10 for the first run in the game in Dixie half of the 2nd inning.

Dixie scores again in the third by a walk a wp and a single to put Dixie up by a score of 2-0.

CovCath third Martin hits first and sends the ball deep over the wall at the 365 mark for his first HR of the season. Nutini goes 3-1, Siemer gets a base hit, then on a 3-2 count Maile hits ball 4 over the CF wall for his (8) of the season (365) and 2 rbi's to give CovCath a 3-2 lead.

In the CovCath 4th Lafever walks, Slagbaum sac bunts 1-3, Martin goes 4-3 for the second out, before Nutini hits a double to drive in the 4th run of the game for CovCath.

Krumme ran into trouble in the top of the seventh by getting the first batter out 5-3 but then after a single, 6 for the second out, #21 gets a single and Krumps come in to take Krumme out. Slagbaum walks his first batter but then K's #7 to end the game.

CovCath hitting:

Nutini 3 PA 1 hit double and 1 rbi

Siemer 3 PA 1 run 2 hits and reached via E-2

Maile 3 PA 1 run 1 hit HR (#8) and 1 fc

Darner 3 PA 1 hit (#50)

Isler 3 PA 1 walk

Holocher 3 PA reached via E-3 and 1 cs

Lafever 3 PA 1 run 1 walk and 1 k

Slagbaum 3 PA 1 k and 1 sac

Martin 3 PA 1 run 1 hit HR (#1) and 1 rbi

CovCath pitching

Krumme (8-0)

100 pitches 6 2/3 innings 27 PA 8 hits 2 runs 2 earned runs 1 walk 6 k's 1 HR 1 BK

Slagbaum (0-0-2s

9 pitches 1/3 inning 2 PA 0 hits 0 runs 0 earned runs 1 walk 1 k

CovCath is now 28-3-1 and plays Ryle on Friday May 15 @ Ryle at 5pm

But that would be against the 11th commandment of Theoldguy baseball rules! :ohbrother:

It reads: Thy shall not walk Maile to get to Darner, as RD has 59 rbi's and 52 hits this season, if you want to win the game. :notworthy::notworthy:

You are out at the plate

What's that all about?

Just a good picture of the play of the game, with the umpire signaling a out? Problem?

Oh Ok! My bad, I thought I read the heading above the picture as though you were saying that. And yes, it looks like it was a nice play.

Great throw and tag by CCH on that play. IMO that play shouldn't have even been close much less an out but Stegner (runner seen in pic) slowed down halfway to home to keep his helmet on his head.
