Theoldguy Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 CovCath 6 Cov Holy 2 In the Coach Conner Classic CovCath wins the Coach Conner Classic I am far too sleepy to finish this tonight, but I do want to congratulate Adam Shumate on his outstanding effort in holding Holy Cross to only 1 earned run befor I head to bed. Adam also extended the streak of complete game victories to seven for the CovCath starting pitchers and improved his own record to 3-1 on the season.
Theoldguy Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 CovCath 1st: Maile walks on five pitches but CovCath does nothing. Holy Cross 1st: HC with the help of two CovCath infield errors score a run After one complete it is HC 1 CovCath 0 CovCath 2nd: Isler hits a single and then Holocher hits a rocket that not only cleared the wall over the 345 mark (#1) at Dixie but the HR easily cleared the netting protecting the cars in the parking lot below. It was a indeed a bomb.... HC 2nd: 1, 2, 3 After two complete it is CovCath 2 HC 1 CovCath 3rd: Isler hits his HR (#3 345) in almost the exact same spot as Holocher did his in the inning before. Just another rocket over the wall and above the netting too, as CovCath scores another run. HC 3rd: After Shumate gets the first two batters out he gives up a double and a single and HC scores a run, but after giving up another single Adam settles down and strikes out the next batter. After three complete innings it is CovCath 3 Holy Cross 2 HC doesn't score another run in the game and in fact only gets two more runners on base as Shumate pushes himself up a notch and continues the streak of CovCath pitchers pitching complete games to seven straight games. CovCath scores three more runs in the game. In the sixth on a single by Holocher a sac bunt by Lafever a fc by Schlagbaum gets Holocher in and a double by Nutini scores Schlagbaum. In the CovCath seventh Maile walks again, then steals second and third and goes home on a wild pitch. The good: Adam Shumate! The young man is learning to pitch! Earlier in the season he would have self imploded when the CovCath infield committed the two errors, but in watching and listening to his peers and coaches, Adam is learning to just not let it affect him and continue on pitching. It is nice to see the young man maturing through the season. Holocher and Isler rocket shots over the wall and netting at Dixie for HR's. The bad: The two errors The ugly: Theoldguy butchering up the Lloyd game post. CovCath hitting: Nutini 4 PA 1 hit double and 1 rbi Siemer 4 PA 1 k Maile 4 PA 1 run scored 2 walks and 2 sb Darner 4 PA 1 walk Isler 4 PA 2 runs scored 2 hits HR (#3 345) and 2 rbi's Holocher 4 PA 2 runs scored 2 hits HR (#1 345) 2 rbi's Lafever 3 PA 1 walk and 1 sac Schlagbaum 3 PA 1 run scored 2 hits 1 rbi 2 sb and 1 fc Martin 3 PA CovCath pitching: Shumate (3-1) 96 pitches 7 complete innings 5 hits 2 runs 1 earned run 0 walks 6 k's CovCath is now 26-3 CovCath plays Beechwood @ Beechwood at 5pm Monday to decide who gets the #1 seed for the upcoming 35th District Tournament @ CovCath, starting Monday May 18th.

AirYardGo Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 HC did a good job with the first four hitters, holding them to 1 for 13. CCH just has too many weapons throughout their entire lineup.

thebigfella23 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I thought the young pitchers from HC all did a nice job. Holocher's HR was a bomb.

I thought HC pitching did a great job against that lineup. A freshman starter followed by 3 sophmores. HC seems to be in good shape for the future on the mound.

They did do a good job, but remember, the CovCath pitcher was also just a sophomore, so HC will be seeing lots and lots of him for a while! :thumb:

Theoldguy Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 But not with that offense he has this year to support him.:thumb: That's very true, but Krumps will just go back to more of his small ball game plan that has worked rather well for the last 23 years! CovCath just seems to reload year after year after year in Baseball.
Clyde Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 So did I hear correctly that Ice hit a homer off of Rob Broering? Hope that didn't have any ripple effects.

I heard he was going to last year, but he came back for this senior class. :idunno:
