April 29, 200917 yr Looks awesome but very pricey. At least during peak time. You have to realize that most of those homes are big enough for 2 or 3 families. We are staying in a very nice home that sleeps 16 with a private pool and all the amenities and is oceanfront and sharing with friends of ours. So, it only cost us $1,800 apiece. Believe me, it sounds expensive but as tenaciousD said.....it is worth it because you do get what you pay for. The beaches are not as crowded as they are in places like Myrtle. If you get the chance, you have to try the blackened Shark. I got it at an all you can eat seafood buffet on Old 12 in Kill Devil Hills or Kitty Hawk. It is the the best seafood I have ever eaten. I also like the seafood at Fisherman's Warf in Wancheese, near Manteo.

You take 64 all the way to Norfolk and then you have a toll road (one toll) all the way to NC, just about 30-40 miles before you reach Dare County and the bridge to the outer banks. We leave the day before and stop in Charlottesville, VA and get up fresh on Saturday morning and go into our 4pm check-in ready to go!
May 4, 200917 yr I love the Outer Banks, its a great family vacation. Much more relaxed and family oriented than Myrtle, etc. From the Wright Brothers memorial to the Lost Colony, there is a ton of history in the area. Andy Griffith got his acting career started by acting in the Lost Colony outdoor drama. Cape Hatteras is very cool and the OBX has the best fishing of any ocean vacation I've ever been to. We usually stay at Nags Head, but we haven't been there in a few years. I also enjoy spending at least one evening driving down to Oregon Inlet and watching the small charter fishing boats come in and unload their catch. I agree also on the seafood. The Fishermans Wharf is my favorite.
May 4, 200917 yr BTW, Andy Griffith still lives on the mainland near Manteo. There is a Ford dealership in Manteo that has a vintage truck, I believe an old ice truck, that is partly owned by Mr. Griffith. I agree, Watusi, it is very family oriented and has much to offer. I have been deep sea fishing out of the Oregon Inlet a couple of times. Great fishing and even more fun eating!!!!!!!

Probably staying in the Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head area.....just because you have things to do for the kids. Also, the northern most tip of the Outer Banks is kid friendly. That would be Corolla and Corolla Light area.
