Okay there have been many lopsided scores this year posted on BGP. I am trying to think about some of the worst scores I have ever seen.......Is thsi becoming more of a trend?

 

 

I remember a district tourney game in the late 90's that Silver Grove lost 40 something to 2 against Brossart. And you know what? Brossart did everything short of getting out on purpose to keep the score down.

 

 

Any thoughts or memories on this issue????????

According to the KHSAA record books, in 1984 Middlesboro scored 36 runs in the first inning against Pineville, but not sure what the final score was. Last year Anderson County beat Eminence 58-0.

Does anybody remember the score of the Brossart Silver Grove game????

If you don't have the pitching -- and this is always the case in lopsided scores -- just forfeit. Please. For the benefit of everyone.

Well......you cannot do that in a district tourney game. My concern is more why do these schools schedule each other? Now I realize some are district tourney seed games. But unless it is that why schedule each other?

Why can't you forfeit a district game? Since when is there some rule against that? Different sport, but a few years ago Williamsburg forfeited their boys district games against defending Sweet 16 champ South Laurel.

I don't have a problem with a team forfeiting/electing not to play their district seeding games (Heritage does this every year in District 33), but I do have a problem if a team would forfeit a district tourney game. It gives an unfair advantage to their opponent to not have to use any pitching at all or be put at some minimal risk to have an upset occur, however unlikely it would be. Weird things happen in baseball every once in a while. I've seen many games in which a strong hitting team flailed around and did next to nothing against a pus ball pitcher because their timing was all screwed up. If a team was starting to cancel their games in district tournament play, I would very much question their right to remain in that district.

But in the case of that Middlesboro vs. Pineville game mentioned earlier, they are in the same class (in football anyway).

Working for who? The larger schools? Easy to say when a school has 1200 kids to choose from versus a school with 450 in grades 7 through 12. Don't confuse the exception to the rule when a small school has won the state title with the reality that larger schools dominate the state tournaments. While there are a minority of small school programs that can compete for various reasons, the majority cannot and the scores you see in some district seeding games proves that fact alone.
