I'll get the game info out of the way right away. Smallwood pitched a great game. Holy Cross scored one run in each of the first three innings and then he held the Indians scoreless for the remainder of the game with the only big threat coming in the bottom of 7 when he put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs before getting a 4-6-3 DP. Dixie came up with timely hits, something they haven't done all year, to win this game.

 

Now for Max's 500th. I've been around the program for 6 years and I have never been more nervous to get a W. Max is a guy that gives everything to the game and asks nothing in return. To be able to help him reach this milestone is an outstanding feeling. He is a tremendous coach that knows how to teach the game and he gets the fundamentals embedded into his players' minds from the get go. I want to congratulate Coach Maxwell for this outstanding feat and I hope there are many more Ws to follow.

500 is a ridiculous amount of wins. Shows you have to be good at what you do - and good for an extended period of time - to put up numbers like that. Congrats!

Roenker went five innings and left with the lead.

Roenker (5), Egan (1), and then one of the first basemen pitched.

This was definitely the best game for timely hitting that I've seen from Dixie this year. They still need improvement in running the bases. Overall, a nice win.

Just wondering, with a district seeding game against Cov Cath today, why would they pitch Roenker last night? I thought I read he was their ace but maybe I'm mistaken.:idunno:

HC has an All "A" State game Saturday, so I would guess they want him to be well rested.

How many days does he normally rest between starts?

 

Usually 3 or 4, but with it being a State game, I guess they want to have him fresh. They could be going with the mentality of not letting CovCath see their ace before Districts also.
