When was the last time the baseball poll didn't have either PRP or Harrison County?

This is almost comical. Do the coaches even look at the teams before they vote? Lexington Christian is beating everyone in Lexington. They are at the top of the leader board in the 11th region and are probably the best team in the state. Franklin County has beaten Western Hills 13-0 and 5-3 but are ranked below them at #10. P.R.P. is ranked #2 but who have they beaten? This is not a knock on PRP but I am sure Bill Miller will tell you that his team is not a top 5 team right now. He lost way too much last year and these guys are going to have to gel bet/ now and the regional tournament.

I don't have a problem with Pleasure Ridge Park being ranked 2nd. They've won nine games in a row, which may be tied with Lexington Christian for the longest active streak. In the last five games, they've beaten four Kentucky schools (North Bullitt, Perry County Central, Southern and Larue County) with a combined record of 44-22, along with the defending Wisconsin Division 1 state champions. Their only loss to Kentucky opponents is to the #9 team, so until they're beaten consistently they're going to stay in the top five, and deservingly so.

 

As far as the #9 team Western Hills being ranked ahead of #10 Franklin County, only last weeks 13-0 game had been played when coaches voted on the polls. The poll is released every Thursday morning, so Wednesday night's games are not included. With that said, just because a team beats another team once does not mean they jump ahead of them. After Franklin County beat Western Hills, Franklin County moved up from 12th to 10th and Western Hills moved down from 7th to 9th. Both moves were justified. Early in the season Western Hills beat Pleasure Ridge Park and Tates Creek, yet stayed behind them in the polls. I think this, too, was justified. With all this said, if new polls were to come out, Franklin County should be and probably will be ahead of Western Hills.

If they can win against both Apollo and Covington Catholic today, I think it'll be pretty clear that they are THE best team in the state... at least at this point in the season.

And Harrison is 18th. Just pointing out those teams have been very good for a very long time. I'm impressed.

CovCath has two awesome weekends of baseball coming up in playing in the LIT and in the Boyd County Town Square Bank Classic.

 

April 24th Friday at Louisville St. X: #13 CovCath vs. #7 Lexington Christian

April 25th Saturday at Louisville St. X: #13 CovCath vs. #8 St. Xavier

April 25th Saturday at Louisville St. X: #13 CovCath vs. #1 Apollo

May 1st Friday at Boyd County: #13 CovCath vs. #10 Franklin County

Lexington Catholic beat Apollo 5-2 on April 11th. Their other two losses are from teams in Indiana. Covington Catholic hurt themselves with a loss to Boone County, but can definitely redeem themselves this weekend and next. They play three top ten teams this weekend (St X, Apollo and Lexington Christian), and play another top ten team next weekend (Franklin County). This will be a good test for them to see how they stack up against top competition. If they only go 2-2 against those four teams, I could still see them moving into the top ten. I believe they are 13th right now.

And it took 9 innings to do it. I would love to be able to see Apollo's 3 games this weekend. They should all be good. I would be very surprised if they are able to go 3-0.

Covcath made a statement this weekend. With winning against LCA [who IMO looked the best of the three] and Apollo, and a game that until the end was close despite the most errors they have committed all season vs St. X they deserve to move up without a doubt.

Was the Lexington Christian team that played against Covington Catholic the same team as earlier in the week? I had heard that there may have been different players on the field?
