April 22, 200917 yr Torture in the news again. The thinking seems to be that if we (U.S.) get good info then the torture the informant has to go through is worth it. I get that. I do wonder, though, how far each of you are willing to go in determining what is acceptable. Is there a limit? Am I correct that the end justifies the means?

Are you alright with killing if it leads to the prevention of an attack? Secondly, we always hear Americans say "We're Americans. We're better than that." Is that no longer true?

April 22, 200917 yr They are going to any way... I'd say I have to agree with you here. People will say "Just because they do it, doesn't mean it's alright for us to do it as well." However unfortunately "Just because we don't do it, doesn't mean others will follow our lead."
April 22, 200917 yr Let me re-state then. It makes us no better than the terrorists. Their main goal is to take lives, ours is to prevent the loss of lives, which in some instances requires tactics and techniques which can result in the loss of a life. I just don't see it as being the same. However, it's pretty hard to stomach that explaination IF, it turns out that the person being tortured was innocent after the fact.

Do you honestly believe that Obama's ban of waterboarding will have any effect at all on how our people are treated. It's funny I don't remember hearing about any of our prisoners having their heads cut of.
