Comments like this crack me up. Who becomes a Varsity coach for money? If that is the case, then they are in it for the wrong reasons. With fundraisers, summer camps, and so forth, the difference in money can be made up (and usually are!).

I'll jump in. To my knowledge Goetz loves HC. He could have easily had another public school job in NKY but turned down the offer. You can say what you want but he would have made more money at that job than at HC. In Ohio he would make even more. The thing people forget is the retirement that comes w/ public school teaching compared to HC. It's apples and park benches apart. The money he could make at camps and so forth doesn't come close to replacing what he could earn currently or in the future at a public school.

The big difference would come from the teaching salary if there were one, coaching salaries do not vary that much. Although there probably are some exceptions.

Not true, the coaches at public schools in the state are paid more than at HC. I'm not sure what the coaches salaries are in OH, but I wouldn't imagine they are less than KY.

Yes, I am talking about coaching salaries. True, teaching salaries are totally different. But when talking about coaching salaries, there are ways to make up the differences.

I see that Brandon Grammer from Ryle has applied, did he leave Ryle?

 

He was at Ryle's banquet this week and I have not heard that he was leaving the program. I would seriously doubt he would be considered for the job at Lakota. He is a Northern Kentucky guy and not known outside some circles.

With a Masters degree which im sure Goetz has, he can make almost 60 in some NKY districts and probably 10K more in Ohio. I would say 35K is real close for the current postion he has. Here are 2 examples. I cant find private pay scale.

Sandman makes a very valid point. The teachers (and coaches) at the parochial schools make huge financial sacrifices to work for the Diocese. In most cases, these teachers could make almost twice as much salary working in the public school system. That is equally true with the coaching pay as some public school assistant coaches can make more than parochial school head coaches.

 

Although the parochial teachers and coaches choose this route because of their dedication to the schools and Diocese, sometimes it becomes necessary to make a change for the financial well-being of their families and their retirement future.

The coaches that I know have not left for "greener" pastures due to the coaches salary. It has always been the 10 to 15 thousand dollar difference in teachers pay.

Would a catholic school hire a coach that is not catholic?
