April 14, 200917 yr If Rush makes this a wrestling match like he did with BJ and Serra in the second fight, he has a real shot against Spider. He can't try to stand with Spider, but if he gets that fight to the ground he can beat Silva.
April 14, 200917 yr Hendo has jumped back and forth between the 185 and 205 pound divisions for several years now. Franklin started at 205 and dropped to 185 before Silva chased him back to 205. So, any weight in that range would have worked for those guys. It's not quite the same for a guy who is the 185 champion, but has fought at 205 to suddenly cut down some more. GSP is a big guy, he could fight at 185 if he wanted.:idunno: Probably true. If I were Rush, I would ask for the lower catch weight because it is an advantage for him as you have stated.

April 14, 200917 yr If GSP were to fight Silva, he better learn the flying heel hook and pray he lands it on Anderson or he is doomed.
April 14, 200917 yr You do know this isn't a reality at this point right? I'm the one that posed the "what if" scenario originally, so yes I'm aware that this is a dream at this point. No reason to break it down with any less vigor, though.
April 14, 200917 yr I'm really looking forward to this ppv, should be one of the best in a while. Im going with the Spider with a second round KO over Leites, and Rua actually getting the decision over Chuck. Not really bold predictions because anything can happen in these two bouts. The Spider is a beast and has been for a while, but you cannot sleep on Leites Jui Jitsu prowless. Furthermore, Shogun used to be one of the tops in MMA, but after te Griffith bout was out for a while after going through with surgery. I love Chuck, and he could easily win any Light Heavy fight he is in, but for some reason I'm feeling like Rua is once again healthy, and determined to get his name back. Gotta remember his glory days were all from Pride, and not much has been promising since stepping inside the octagon, so i'm thinking we see Mauricio bring his "A" game or shall I say his Pride game into the fight with the Iceman.

IF GSP could by some chance get it to the ground, he could win this hypothetical fight. Like the posters before, I agree that Silva's stand up is light years ahead of everyone else around him. But on the ground it's a match. GSP's ground and pound is equally or more impressive than Spider's BJJ IMO.
April 14, 200917 yr Let's not forget that a very weak Travis Lutter did well against Silva on the ground for a while. Lutter did pretty well against Franklin on the ground as well....for a while. Lutter has a very good ground game, but his conditioning seems suspect, at best.

GSP's ground and pound is equally or more impressive than Spider's BJJ IMO. I disagree. GSP's "great" ground game in recent fights owes a lot to the fact that he's bigger and stronger, thus he simply overpowers his opponents. He won't have that advantage against Silva regardless of the weight they fight at. Silva is bigger and stronger, a better striker and has better BJJ. There's no spot in this hypothetical matchup where GSP has anything remotely close to an advantage. NHS Big Daddy was right...hope for a miracle. That's his chance. Heck, I think Silva is a better dancer, too. As for this PPV, I'll take Silva and Liddell in the big fights. But, I do think a world class BJJ fighter has the best chance of knocking Silva off. I don't see anyone beating him in a stand up fight. Shogun has looked out of shape and unimpressive since joining the UFC. Until I see something different, I can't pick him. Liddell may not KO him, but he can win a decision...especially if Shogun gasses after Round 1 like his other fights. I could see him winning the first and losing the last two. Maybe his best shot is to put Chuck to sleep in the first...

April 14, 200917 yr Shogun was hurt vs Forrest and had been off for over a year I believe when fighting Coleman. He'll look different vs Chuck. He might not win, but he'll look different IMO.
April 14, 200917 yr Lutter did pretty well against Franklin on the ground as well....for a while. Lutter has a very good ground game, but his conditioning seems suspect, at best. GSP has very good jiu jitsu as well, combined with the best wrestling in the UFC right now...he would have a chance. I don't think him being big and over powering people is all that it is. GSP's jiu jitsu has gotten MUCH MUCH better. His technique is good. Him having the strength of a bear helps too though.
