The Others have some sort of "connection" with the island and the island decides who stays and goes

 

Charles Widmore was the leader of the others but was exiled from the island because he fathered Penny

 

Ben went to kill Penny in revenge for Alex but stopped when he saw her son, he was then beaten up by Desmond. That's how his face got so abused before returning to the island.

 

Ben appeared surprised when Sun showed him the picture of Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, Jin and Juliet as part of the Dharma Initiative in the '70's.

 

Ben told Sun that he had no idea why Locke was alive again and that it scared him to death.

 

Ben summoned and confronted the smoke monster who made him flash back on Alex's life and death. It then took the form of Alex and told Ben to follow Locke's orders and if Ben killed Locke the monster would hunt him down and kill him.

 

The woman who captured Saeed is now armed and appears to have an agenda.

I think you got pretty much everything right, and wow I love this show!

It's a small thing, but they always do such a good job of casting the younger versions of everyone. For example, the younger version of Widmore featured was immediately recognizable as him.

 

As for the episode, it was great!

Also, I'd like to add my little tidbit of thought. Ben returned to the island to be judged by the Monster. The Locke as we knew was also in need of a shave and looked rough, but now he is fresh and well-groomed. I believe that the "new" Locke is The Monster

That's the theory I've seen circulating. It is rather conspicuous that John was not around when the smoke monster showed up.

Here's the big problem with the smoke monster as Locke thing.

 

Whenever it has taken on the form of someone else it has rarely ever been seen by more than one person. Even on those occasions it usually does not manifest itself for long. Locke has been around, out and about and seen by just about everyone that survived the crash.

 

I think the Island wants him alive so it is keeping him alive. Considering the fact that it already fixed a broken spine, cured a woman's cancer and allowed a number of people on multiple occasions to survive a plane crash I really wouldn't put it past the Island. Especially considering it is somehow involved with shifting through time.

I love the show but this whole going the Egyptian God way has really been a bit of a let down to me I was hoping for something more creative.

Are you sure that it is necessarily Egyptian?

 

It could be something older, something that predates Egyptian civilization that actually was the reason FOR it.

 

Something along the lines of Atlantis or Lemuria.

The question regarding the whole time travel thing is this: Is there some sort of method to it? Is there some set of rules regarding it? Obviously it is set in stone, but what determines how the Island chooses who is where and when? Does the Island arbitrarily do it or must the Island have the "wheel" engaged to do it?

 

Christian is also an interesting quandary especially now that many people have encountered him.

 

Out of everything that is going on though, Richard Alpert is(and has been) the biggest mystery for me since I first saw him at essentially the same age in Ben's flashback at the end of season 3.

When they showed a statue a few weeks ago it was after rumors of an Egyptian god then on this lost board I'm on, they showed a picture of the back of the statue that was shown with pictures of the Egyptian God and it's a perfect match.

The thing is though that Egypt and Atlantis/Lemuria are intertwined. The legends state that the people who escaped the destruction of those continents were responsible for many of the advanced civilizations around the world.

 

So while Egypt my tie into it, I doubt that Egypt is the island's past if that makes any sense.

 

Also the outside of the Temple did not resemble Egyptian architecture, it looked more like Mayan or Aztec architecture. Which would also lend credence to the lost continent theory.

It's so frustrating to watch. I'm glad there is only one season left.
