The game was never in any doubt as Isler of CovCath was once again just unhitable on the mound for CovCath today. How unhitable was he you ask? Well Ice threw only a total of 36 pitches in his three innings of work, He struck out three, did not walk a batter, and faced only one over the minimum of nine batters (ten) and gave up only one hit. The hit? Well the ball was hit foul along the third base line and was at least three to four feet into foul territory, when it hit a rock or something and all of a sudden it went fair.

 

Ice faced just three batter in the top of the first and put them down on 4-3, 4-3 and 1-3 while only throwing 11 pitches, and then CovCath came up to the plate. Nutini hit a 0-2 pitch for a single, and then Simer bunted into a FC, but then Maile hit a rocket that the Breds RF tried to catch but missed and it went for a triple and scored a run. Darner knocked in Maile with a 6-3 out, then Isler hit the ball into deep center field for a double. Two out, man on second and the star of the HHS game Lafever up to the plate. Brandon like on Monday came through with a double and a rbi to make it three to nothing and CovCath never looked back.

 

The good: Isler and Gerwe pitching. They only give up a total of two hits, but with the help of a DP in the top of the fifth, NCC only had 16 men bat (gentlemen, that is just one over the minimum of 15). Everyone sans Holocher who walked twice with the bases loaded (2RBI) and Warning who walked once had one or more hits. Lafever went 3/3 today and is just stinging the ball, as is Nutini who went 3/4 today.

 

The bad: Bad throw by Isler on the base hit allowing the NCC runner to reach second base, and a error on Krumme on a pop up that was a foul ball, that gave the NCC batter another chance and he got a hit when given the chance.

 

The ugly: CovCath has got to get that rock or whatever it was dug up and moved off the field, even if it's in foul territory.

 

This game reminded me of the game at NCC last year when Isler just completed dominated NCC.

 

No one and I mean no one, is a better pitcher in the Ninth Region at the moment than Isler.

 

There were two MLB scout at this game (down from four on Monday) one from the Royals and another from the Cubs in attendance today. That makes it visits from the Royals, Cubs, Yankees, Mariners, Twins and the MLB scouting service in the last two CovCath games..

Siemer 3 PA 3 runs scored 2 hits 1 rbi and a fc

Maile 3 PA 2 runs scored 1 hit (triple) 1 rbi and a fc

Stayton 1 PA

Darner 3 PA 1 run scored 1 hit (double) 2 rbi, and reached base via E-6

Isler 3 PA 2 hits (double) and 1 K

Martin 1 run scored

Lafever 3 PA 3 hits 2 rbi (double)

Holocher 3 PA 2 rbi 2 walks and 1 K

Eggemeier 3 PA 1 run scored and 1 hit

Warning 3 PA 1 walk

 

2-0 Isler 36 pitches 3 complete innings 1 hit 3 K's pitched to only 16 batters

Gerwe 18 pitches 2 complete innings 1 hit pitched to only 6 batters

 

CovCath is know 4-0 and plays Ryle next at CovCath on April 3rd @ 5pm.... In the Knochelman Tournament.

BTW with that triple in the first inning of the game today, Luke Maile moves into first place with a career total record of 11 triples. He was tied with Kevin Volpenhein from the 1980-82 seasons.

Good win but I wouldn't read too much into this one other than Isler's performance.

Expected with Isler pitching and Connor not being able to go.

Shaun Meyer started, then Nolan Johnson came into the game to finish out.

Cov Cath looked ok but NCC looked terrible. I understand that Coach Schulkens was not in attendance as his grandmother passed away. This I'm sure had an affect on NCC as our prayers are with Coach Schulkens. It's early folks and if I remember correctly NCC and CovCath both started this way last year????

I believe that Clyde made a statement in a different thread that pitching just might be the strength of this CovCath team. Well in back to back games against HHS and NCC, the CovCath pitching staff throws goose eggs and only gives up a total of four hits in twelve innings, while throwing Nutini, Shumate, Isler and Gerwe. That's two seniors, a junior and a sophmore.

In every game but one that has been played in the past two seasons, CovCath has dominated NCC. Credit to NCC for taking the game that mattered, but CovCath is just better. And that's okay. I think it's safe to say that CovCath could have gutted out a run or two regardless of who was pitching for NCC, because either way, NCC still had very little, to no opportunity to score in this one.

And to add to that, prayers sent out to Coach Schulkens on his loss. God Bless.

In no way is this joking, but I think Maile has broken like 10 different batting records. The kid is a stud.
