CovCath could be very dangerous next year also. They have a lot of expierence coming back.

I will give my props to Cotton as perhaps the most improved player for next season. He seemed to be coming into his own late and should be a top ten player in '10 (especially with the room left with the loss of McFarland& Spaulding) Will respectfully disagree with including Grote. Although he can be an outstanding player at times, he is inconsistent and struggles to mesh with that talented group. With a new coach, he better get it together, if he does he may squeak into a top ten type player.

With basketball season now finished, thought this might be a good time to start discussing next season.

 

Who will be the top 10 players and top 10 teams next year? What teams should compete for the region title and what do they need to do to be successful?

 

My top 10 players:

 

1. 6'5 Ricardo Johnson (Holmes)

2. 6'7 Elijah Pittman (Holmes)

3. 6'4 Jeremiah Johnson (Holmes)

4. 6'3 Ronald Cotton (Boone Co)

5. 6'2 Stephen Kolownek (Highlands)

6. 6'0 Mike Gabbard (Boone Co)

7. 6'2 Demetrius Avery (Conner)

8. 6'2 Mitch McLeish (Ryle)

9. 6'1 George Grote (Highlands)

10. Could be filled by several players (Earls- BC, Watson-HHS, Pangallo-NCC, Bryan-Villa, Trammel-Dixie, Rice-Holmes, Greene-Newport)

I'm only quoting your post because it was the first one in the thread, and I don't want to bash posters on a subjective subject like ranking players. But, I don't get so many posters putting McLeish on their top 10 list. I think he's the third best player on Ryle's team. I like Coleman much better and liked the sophomore that played a ton down the stretch (Stauffer maybe) better as well. Again, I know it's subjective, but I just didn't see it. What about this:

Cheatum I think is the kid from Lloyd. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I do remember a Donnie Cheatum who played at Holmes in the mid 80's and was a leaper with tons of athleticism. I think he was also a track star. I wonder if this is his son.

I would agree with this, if the Colonels can dodge injuries and health issues next year they should be back in the region. Beechwood and Holy Cross will be down compared to last year so you should see Holmes and Cov Cath out of the 35th. I don't think they will have enough to take Holmes though.

I don't know if this is a good analogy or not but I look at CovCath last year and think of Scott 2 years ago when they only won 11 games. A lot of players got a lot of varsity experience and with a good summer have the potential to bounce back with a big year.

Stauffer is not a top 10 player in N Ky yet but he does have some potential. I would still rate Thelen, Geisler, Rice and possibly Robinson from Conner ahead of him as far as big men in N Ky for class of 2011.

Sure the potential is there, but when you look at him compared to Geisler, Rice, and Thelen, it's not even close IMO.

 

Rice is the best ALL AROUND player for his class in the 9th.

I like Geisler and Thelen alot and Stauffer is not as polished as those two players. I think Stauffer runs the floor better and is a little more athletic than those two. Will be fun to watch them develop over the next two years.

If you put Giesler and Thelan together, maybe you have a Stauffer. Stauffer will get it done on both ends of the court.
