How is he doing for Boone so far? I know Trevor personally as he worked for/with me this past summer and I'm hoping he is performing at a high level.

 

Just from following the Boone threads so far this year, I believe he's got 2 dingers already and also had a big hit in the opening game against Pendleton.

Its all about Wins and putting your very best product on the field at all times, period end of sentence. Who knows, maybe thats what the Coach was thinking also.

 

Early in the season is not all about wins IMO. My guess is he's getting a good look at what players can do in games vs what he sees in practice.

So you really don't need any players other than your starting 8 and a few pitchers? Only the starters play and should be on the field every inning of every game?

 

High school sports is not ALL about winning. College and pros, yes. At to be sure, winning is important in high school. But it is not entirely, exclusively about winning.

Yeah either Baioni was sending a message to those three Seniors or he is making sure he keeps peace in the family and is giving equal playing time. I personally am not afraid of hurting feelings or keeping people happy at the Varsity HS level. Not really. My response addressed the fact that it is wrong to think that a "team" consists solely of 9 players and that there is no place on the team for anyone who isn't one of these 9. If so, why do coaches bother to keep 16-18 players on their roster? No problem at all with trying to win, but you harm the program as a whole if you don't give some experience and opportunities to players who may not be in your current top 9, but will be important players for your team in the future. And your juice box comment is pointless. :thumb:

Great Point Cooperstown. A "Team" is a work in progress. The best programs tend to win consistently with using the players who made the Team as much as possible. It may only be 2 innings here or a couple swings a game or pinch hit or run. But playing your best 9 IMO is a short term win and a long term program problem.

I guess that's possible, but watching these guys on the football field this past fall, I can't imagine any message delivered would be about effort. Then again, everyone's human.
