I don't want to knock Coach Hornsby at all, but Class A in NKY is pretty darn tough. Why would I want to drop GC, Scott and Lloyd, who may be difficult to beat, but will surely make the team better? Bracken, WV and Taylor will do absolutely nothing in helping Ludlow prepare for the playoffs, or even NKY Class A for that matter. Is is all about winning games? Does Ludlow see three wins out there, and pounce on them? I really like Coach H, and was very vocal about that last season, but IMO I wish he would have kept the harder teams and used those games to get ready for Bellevue, Beechwood and Dayton.

I think it is a good move to take some tough games against bigger schools out of the schedule. Get some wins, build some confidence and excitement and get as much positive vibe into the program as you can. Put together 2 or 3 winning seasons in a row and then the program may be ready to get a tougher schedule.

#5 basically covered everything. However I just wanted to add my own opinion on this to. Can you please tell me how the beatings that Ludlow took against Scott and Grant helped last year? There was absolutely nothing at all to even take from those games, except maybe injuries. I don't buy that games like that will make you better. Yeah you don't want play a cupcake schedule where you will just blow every team out by 48 points. However you want to schedule teams that you have a shot to actually compete against and make a game out of it. Games like that last year, hurt more than they help. It absolutely kills a teams confidence and players could get injured in a game that is not even close. So what sense really does that make? I mean look at the top schools like Beechwood, Highlands, etc. they usually don't schedule games against teams that they will get blown out in. Yeah they schedule really good teams, but teams still within their level of play so they would have a shot.

 

The games that Ludlow scheduled this year aren't games where they are just going to blow these teams out, they are going to be competitive games that are going to go down to the fourth quarter. So how would getting blown out by a 5A school help a team out more than playing close games that go into the fourth quarter? Not to mention the fact that Ludlow will have a fairly young and inexperience team this year, so confidence is going to be a real key for them. So getting blown out and just pushed around by 5A schools would not help at all. It just makes sense to have the schedule they have this year. They are games that are not cupcakes, and could go either way. It just makes sense. I just completely disagree with you on this one.
