5wide
Kenny Walker is one of the best college players I've ever seen, and as much as I like PP's game, he's got a way to go to match up to Walker. Bennett trumps Stevenson by a million miles. Jodie Meeks is better individually than any of the three '86 guards, but collectively the '86 team trumps them by a million miles. It's not even close to compare. Plus, how do you quantify the impace a real PG has on the rest of the roster? It's similar to an NFL team with talent everywhere except under center. It doesn't matter. Likewise in this comparison. Even if the individual talent at the other 4 positions was close, the lack of PG negates some of what the current squad is capable of. Look at the '96 championship squad. As much as Pitino wanted Wayne Turner to be ready to run the show, he wasn't and the team was significantly better with Anthony Epps running the point....even though nobody would argue, I don't think, that Epps was a better individual player. Michael Corleone
Sutton's team had more talent IMHO than the 1998 NCAA Championship team. Coming out of high school maybe. Pitino did a great job of developing the talent on the 98 team.
