I find it ironic that people start a thread and ask for opinions on refs then people get defensive when opinions are given. This thread was started by someone who wanted opinions. Thats what they are getting, both good and bad. I think everyone would agree that being a ref is NOT easy and nobody is perfect.

I started the thread and I'm not offended by any of the opinions.

Yeah and he is laughing all the way to Rupp.:sssh:

Thats how it works when you get to help add up the scores.:sssh:

Not a knock on the overall officiating of the 16th, but I thought the 9th did a good job in the Boys regional. I did not see any of the girls tourney.

..and I just gave my opinion. Opinions are subjective, irony is not.

Quiet honestly, I did not get defensive. I know no referee personally, and I could care less what anybody thinks about them. Dialogue is a good way to become informed though, so I'll read on.

I agree that the boy's tourney was the better officated of the two.

No; just stating that the coaches of the region think he has been at the top of the officiciating ranks each of the last 40 years. The coaches know more about officiating than do the fans; therefore Kouns is ranked where he is.

I totally agree, the coaches do the voting on officials and they do know a lot more about who they want during crunchtime. Fans are never satisfied.

I find this compulsively bizarre that every year there's a posting from this region so concerned with who is the best basketball official. I'm sort of concerned about folks who care about that quite honestly.

Strange how none of the coaches in my circle, which has been far more than a few, have ever put him there.
