It would take a little shifting, but HDE always says that as long as 256 schools are playing basketball, you should never have three-team districts or three-district regions.

 

But the 15th wanted to keep the same old schools, but also let the same old schools keep going to the region. It's a bad setup and it isn't fair to the other fifteen regions.

Here’s how the boys’ 59th-60th “super district” at Pike Central will work (I think):

 

Monday’s first-round games are Pike Central vs. East Ridge, and Pikeville vs. Belfry.

 

The winners of those games advance to play Shelby Valley and Phelps in the semifinals on Wednesday.

 

Meanwhile, in the 57th District opener on Monday, it’s Paintsville vs. host Sheldon Clark, with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s semifinals against Johnson Central. The other semifinal has Lawrence County vs. Magoffin County.

 

Before Friday’s title games in the super district (59th-60th) and the 57th, there will be a consolation games between the semifinal losers. The winners of those consolation games earn a trip to the 15th Region Tournament. The losers of the consolation games play each other on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the regional tournament at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville next week.

It was see if it works type of thing. It didn't work out so next year will be back to normal. Paintsville has really dropped and it doesn't looked good for the future.

The two semi-final losers from the 57th do play a consolation game where the winner will make it to the play-in game against the 59th/60th consolation game loser... Sounds wrong but that's how it is...

 

Sounds crazy. A team from the 59/60 can lose in the semifinals and the consolation game and still have a chance to play in the region. How crazy is that?
