I always liked playing down there. I wasn't fond of inbounding the ball... a little close on the sidelines. I don't think that hosting a girl's Freshman regional would be out of the question.

 

The building you played in was probably the old middle school, not the new one at Sharp Middle School.

The format and site was chosen in October at the 10th Region Coaches Meeting. The winners of each district agreed at that meeting to call Scott Collins and let them know who won the tournament and he would in turn let them know when they played.

 

So, the comment about thrown together at the last minute would be correct if you think deciding on the format and dates in October of 2008 was last minute.

Not true. Now it might not have been a focus of some coaching staffs and they had forgotten the layout of the tournament as the season progressed.

 

But NO ONE IN THE REGION STEPPED UP TO HOST IT. And so Scott Collins of Pendleton County said, well, none of the varsity coaches want to step up and host after Bourbon County had spent about 10 years of doing, than I will host it at Pendleton County. If St. Patrick would like to volunteer to put it together next year, I bet Coach Collins would be glad to pass it on. But considering they didn't volunteer to host it this year, not sure they are interested in it next year.

 

Layout was determined and distributed to the coaches.

 

Once the districts had held their districts and that was each district's responsibility and I am sure was pretty hard to pull off with all the bad weather, than the times were set.

 

It is easy to call someone out on something when no one else in the region wants to do it.

 

I was not calling anyone out Ladiesbballcoach, Scott Collins and Pendleton County did an excellent job hosting the tournament. The new Sharps middle school was an excellent facility to play in. But when you are notified less than 24 hours that your game is to be played that seems a little tight to me. I am sure a lot of factors go into when the games could have been played and I am positive the weather wrecked havic on the scheduling trying to work in the tournament and make up games. Just being a parent I do not have any say in hosting tournaments at St Patrick but I will certainly talk to the powers to be and suggest we offer our services next year.

The coaches at the meeting decided on the format, agreed that they would take care of their own districts and then contact Coach Collins when their district championship was decided. My understanding is that the St. Patrick coach did not do that and the Bracken County coach, Patrick Kelsch was the one to inform Coach Collins who won their district on Saturday.

 

If my understanding is correct, your district was decided on Friday night about 36-40 hours before the tournament was to begin. Not sure why the St. Patrick coach did not know the location and times.

I expect them to win their district and if they get away from Montgomery County, they could easily be playing in the last game of the regional tournament. And on any given night, they could beat Montgomery and make that trip to Bowling Green.

I agree. And it looks like they have a talented bunch of girls coming up, as well. It's nice to see St. Pat competitive again.

Congrats Young Lady Saints on your regional championship. These girls for the most part have been playing together since the 3rd grade and it shows in how well they play together. It is a tribute to there coaching.

Ladiesbballcoach, I have known you for a long time and knew you was pretty smart about girls basketball. I'm glad to see you make this comment because when it come to tournament time anything can happen. You know that and I do to!

I have said it to many people that they remind me SOOOOOOOO much of the Ray Kues Brossart teams without Katie Schwegman.

 

All about the same height, hustle their rears off, run the floor, pressure you everywhere in the gym even at halftime of the JV game when you are getting popcorn at the concession stand, rebound, work as a team. They do so much of what is RIGHT about the way basketball should be played.

 

The Klee girl is fun to watch pound the inside game.

 

And I love the running and trapping. You cross midcourt and think, WHEW, I made it past that press and here comes a trap from behind. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Wow, I SINCERELY HOPE nobody at St. Pat turned down the chance to host this tournament this year. If so, I personally apologize, and I know we could get a group of people together who would be glad to host it anytime in the future.

 

Of course, if we did host it, people would have to refrain from complaining about how small our gym is, and how supposedly bad it is for other teams to shoot in.

 

All aside, Pendleton County was very hospitable, and the middle school is a lovely facility.:thumb:

 

If this is a complaint at the freshmen level, then there are some miserable people walking everyday. There are worst gyms in the state and I have never heard a complaint too bad about the St. Patricks gym. In fact I like it, it is tight in the corners, but its a adjustment that kids need to be able to adapt to. I know for a fact that each school had the opportunity to step up to the plate after Bourbon County declined to host last year and no one did but Coach Collins at Pendleton. I say kudos to Pendleton for getting a little money maker, having the desire to keep a competitive drive to some young kids to be able to experience a tournament like atmosphere for some kids that may never have past their freshmen year.

It would be nice if they would select an all tourney team. Several girls played really well. It would also be nice to see some stats. I was curious about the Montgomery game.

I also noticed how they (MC) didn't play their bench. They seemed to have a lot of height on their bench.

St Patrick has a deep bench with a lot of talent there.

 

I have been told that there is not alot of talent on Montgomery Co.'s freshman bench. What they have is on the floor and I believe that three of them play JV as well.

Four of St. Patrick's Freshmen start JV and the remainder of the freshmen team (three freshmen and five 8th graders) all play on the JV team. All seven of the freshmen at St. Patrick are on the Varsity team as well. Small school....resources are spread thin. The good thing is they are very well conditioned and don't tire easy. They are used to having to play one game and then turn around and play another. The St Pat freshmen girls had 12 games from Thurday night through Monday night (6 freshmen, 3 JV and 3 varsity games).
