Rules question?

Can a player compete in a game if he/she is banned from the home teams facility? Thanks.

Why would the player be banned from an opponents school:confused:

He plays for GC. He was told by a police officer at a previous game he could not step back onto the Owen County school grounds. There was only verbal and not any physical confrontation at all when it occurred. My opinion is that if you go by what the deputy said then any school could say any team member did whatever just to ban them from their school and use it to win games or anything. IMO if you are going to be banned then it should be by the KHSAA and from playing the sport period if it is a serious enough offense.

Being banned by a judge, or even being banned by the schools administration (which they would have to be able to back up in the courts when challenged), should make him ineligble in my opinion. A police officer banning him without going through the courts is a different situation. If the police arrest him for showing up, so be it. They are willing to back up the legal consequences, But, if the officer in question is not willing to do so, then I would think he should play.

I missed , that he was banned from another school, with nothing in writing. I vote he play! ! !

I don't think that you can ban a player from a game unless there is a court ruling or KHSAA approves. You can certainly ban that student as a spectator, but not as a player. This has HUGE lawsuit written all over it!

How is what I said wrong? The second half was an opinion, lol.

Sorry, not saying you were wrong.

This is a new one on me... I think the KHSAA would rule that no school has a right to ban a student from another team from participating in the contest.

In the event of a legal situation, and it would be VERY RARE, I'd imagine that the contest would be moved to another site. It would then, be a shame to lose a district home game due to shortsightedness on the part of game management.

A few questions:

1 - How long ago did the deputy "ban" him?

2- Why?

3- If this is truly the case -- has it been brought to the attention of the coaches involved and then why did thy schedule the game there ?

I would think, too, that the home school would need to notify the visiting school of the situation. It doesn't sound like that happened here, or the issue would have been addressed beforehand. We are talking about two rival district schools.

I do not know if this is covered under the laws of the KHSAA.

I don't think this had anything to do with KHSAA. It was between the player and law enforcement officials. I would think the sheriff trumps KHSAA. That said, it seems like there should have been something in writing, something official stating the player was not allowed in the school and the coach and A.D. should have been aware of it before hand. Was the coach not aware of the boy being banned?

Wrong. They didn't want to but allowed it at halftime.

So the boy in question did not play in the first half???

Nothing was said until halftime and everything broke loose.

What exactly broke loose?

The decision to let the athlete stay and play in the game. Delayed the start of the second half.

After speaking with several officials today. The player in question is eligible to compete in any event with his school and the board and school officials which in turns makes them eligible under the KHSAA. Every event in the state of Kentucky is sanctioned under the KHSAA not the school hosting the event. If the player in question was not allowed to participate it would have violated their civil rights.

So the sheriff trumps the ACLU, or any other group. The law is very powerful don't get me wrong, however you cannot deny someone, especially a student/athelete his or hers due process. It is that simple. Neither the sheriff nor the school administration has the authority to do ban a player.
