Great "Team" win by the Eagles! Here is my question: Why would a coach with a masters degree in Instructional (important word here) Leadership make a statement in todays Enquirer quote "He has put this team on his back"? Wouldn't a true leader try to unite a team so close to the post season? Perhaps he should take notes from Billy Gillespie when he was asked about Meeks. A team is not made by the play of just one player. If it were it wouldn't be a TEAM sport! This has no disrepect for this particular player, he is doing a great job, as is all the Eagles.

 

I think you are missing the point. Coach Carr is looking for leaders on the court. Kellen Smith is the player you are referring to. The quote from the NKY.COM was:

 

"He's been our go-to guy the past two or three games," Carr said. "I told him that he has to have a leadership role. And he has put this team on his back."

 

It is important that a team have leaders on the field or on the court. This does not contradict or take away from this being a team sport. I don't know if you are trying to knock on Coach Carr or not, but if you know anything about him, and apparently by knowing his background you do, you would know how silly it is to suggest that he not know this is a team sport.

With his playing ability and instincts as a PG, especially as a sophomore, why wouldn't you let him play in the game as long as you possibly can?

 

He is the man that runs the Eagles offense and sets all the offensive sets and plays into motion so you need him to give your best chance at scoring on every position. As long as his conditioning and stamina allows it, I would have him on the floor at every moment possible.

 

I would too. My comment was meant in recognition of his endurance and ability to get after it from tipoff to buzzer. Against Holmes he ran up and down the Court all game long + the OT. Like saying...Does he ever miss a shot???

I would aagree about that comment. Seems like a hit and run!

Don't misread my post. I believe Coach Carr knows the game of basketball and is an excellent coach in teaching his players the game. I believe the comment I referenced puts a lot of pressure on Kellen and makes other players who work hard feel a little less important. I was not bothered by other quotes, of course he needs to challenge his players, he needs leaders on the floor. My comment was that one player does not need to feel he needs to put the whole team on his back. That's why it's a team. No axe to grind, not trying to ruffle any Eagle feathers.

Good to see the Eagles pick up a win over a tough Cougar squad.

Don't think there is any added pressure from the comment. PG in Scott's system has a lot of expectations anyway and Smith has been in the program for a long time.
