This is no longer true. The new system is based on total enrollment 9-12 from the numbers reported to KDE the previous year. They then invite the smallest 125 schools. Not all schools accept the invitation. They do no pull any others in, so the total participating is less than 125. This is per my region's All "A" rep.

Until this year, the All A Classic had never changed its enrollment requirements for entry into the tournament. The KHSAA changed the "Class A" designation long ago ... if there was an inconsistency on someone's part, it was the KHSAA.

You don't know the history of the tournament. When it went statewide 20 years ago, the enrollment cutoff was established as 425 students in grades 10-12 because that was the KHSAA's cutoff for Class A football.

 

In subsequent years, the KHSAA changed the "Class A" cutoff ... the All A Classic did not, until this past year.

I'm familiar with the history of the all-A tournament. The history is irrelevant. The question is who's making the All-A tournament decisions, and it isn't the KHSAA.

I never said the KHSAA had anything to do with it.

 

But ... people are defining Class A as the KHSAA defines it for football and trying to apply it to the All A Classic. It doesn't work that way.

Oh, I agree! But the All-A was supposed to be the "state tournament" for the tiniest of the tinies...the teams like Eminence, Paris, Monticello, Ludlow, Louisville Holy Cross, that faced the biggest odds - not just against the "bigs", but against almost everyone! Now...suddenly...we're finding teams that are 4-5x the size of their opponents playing in the all-A.

Remember when people argued with me that the All "A" Classic cutoff didn't have anything to do with the KHSAA numbers?

 

I don't see how the KHSAA deserves any suggestion of criticism for adjusting Class A numbers. If they hadn't, Class A would have twice as many teams as the other classes.

I totally disagree! & I wonder how many other kids sitting at home this week bored from cabin fever that got beat in the regions or districts by the AA or AAA schools would like to be in Richmond !!

 

I am not sure what you are trying to say, but I am from Henry County, a team that doesnt get to compete for the real state tournament very often, and I will let you know that for these kids and the people of HC, this was the greatest thing to happen in the county for a long long time. I am sure other teams wish they were there, but why wouldnt they??? I understand that our size is a little bigger, but its not like they brought a regional powerhouse into the tournament. HC hasnt even won a district title since 72...so everyone was excited to be here. We lost right away but I a great time while I was there.
