16th62nd
From what I hear Boyd looks to be pretty tough this year, with a good pitching staff and a strong lineup from top to bottom. Have you been watching their practices in the indoor facility at lockwood? They are always tough, and no doubt will be again this year. Always a top contender in the 16th. PRIDE44
So, if Boyd is so tough who do they have returning. From what I know about their program, I think there is only 1 returning starter from last year.
theBOSS
They have the Petitt kid back at short, the Pauley kid at second, the Arthur kid at third, and Wiler will be in center, they also have a good pitching staff coming back with Brett Moore, Chase Wiler, Tyler Arthur who is throwing very will right now, Jared Spicer who gave some innings last year, and they also have their starting catcher back, who as a freshman hit something like .314 last year. so I belive they will be the team to beat. They will have to prove their selves first though, they have alot of tough games this year. Cocoa will be very tough. sidelinedoc
Greenup is coming off back to back trips to Applebee's and have 7 starters back and many key subs return and you believe they are not the heavy favorites to be King of the 16th? I admire your loyalty to your team but I believe you are way off on this assumption. Boyd should be a very good team, they always are, but not the favorite. I am not saying they cannot win the region, but not likely. Good luck to your Lions this year.
theBOSS
I just believe they don't have the big game starter like they did last year. Edited February 2, 2009 by Ram Rule
sidelinedoc
I just believe they don't have the big game starter like they did last year. Yes, Tyler Hieneman is graduated, but it is safe to say that Dakota Greenslate, Martin and the rest will be able to fill in. They have all pitched quality innings in big games and tournament games the past two years and should not be intimidated. I think they, as a group, will be able to command the same respect that Tyler did when he was on the mound.

I think they, as a group, will be able to command the same respect that Tyler did when he was on the mound. Greenslate is a year older and a year stronger. Pitching will not be a problem, GC will still have the best rotation in the 16th.

The catcher you spoke of is Brad Cornwell. He is probably the best player on the entire team. Tengowski logged the most innings last year, and is'nt the Spicer kid playing basketball? The Arthur kid is unproven and stays hurt, he was even hurt during football season. He is a natural athelete but very unproven, still alot of un-answered questions for the Lions. Coach Ramsey is the man when it comes to judging his talent and I look for him to put together a good team. Not your typical Boyd Co. team though with domanating pitching and defense, should make for a interesting season at Boyd to see if small ball pays off against probably the toughest schedule in the 16th. sidelinedoc
Are the baseball districts seeded this year like basketball or is there a draw like before?

Yes, you're right, the Arthur kid was hurt last year, hamstring pulled from the bone and was still their 2nd best pitcher on one leg. He held Lawrence County to I think 2 or 2 runs through 4 innings last year, again on one leg. He was not hurt during football season and started the last 5 games at quarterback when they made the playoff push. You're are also forgetting the Clark kid who may be a better second baseman than Polley along with some other strong young players and a solid freshman in Salisbury. Boyd is loaded with sophomore talent this year and will probably fall into the 2nd to 5th range in the region depending on how they mature. I think by season's end they will be tough and for the next two years could be the team to beat once again in the 16th. Hiring Ramsay and getting Maynard out of there can do nothing but help this program.

Greenup should take the Region this year and next but, it is baseball. Injuries play major roles and the regional draw.
