IM4THEHOUNDS Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I heard that the ticket prices were $10 per game and $20 for the night cap game on Saturday. Seems a little pricey. Are these correct?

It was $20 for the last session which had 4 games. They also are trying to help cover the costs of paying the out of state teams.

hoops22 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 It was $20 for the last session which had 4 games. They also are trying to help cover the costs of paying the out of state teams. Actually there was 5 games in that session, which included Oak Hill and Findlay Prep.
STRIKE3 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Key word, is "session". To bring top quality programs in, you must offer either compensation, lodging, food or a combination. $20 for watching 5 games, is very reasonable unless you watch 1 and then leave. Short of clearing the gym after each game, only way it can be done.
Boucher Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I think the price was ridiculous, especially for the students. Both NL and SL's student sections were a mere fraction of what they normally are. The promoters should have given students a break off of the $20 admission on Saturday. I spoke with several kids who could not afford to pay $20 to watch their buddies play. Charge the adults what you want, but be fair to the kids, without them we don't have high school basketball.

I think students from participating schools should always be admitted free to high school games (this tournament might be the exception to that due to limited space and number of teams). It wouldn't hurt the gate because they aren't coming anyway and it wouldn't overhelm the gyms because they are usually half empty. It would let the kids participate in their schools' activities.

I guess that is why I thought it was pricey ---my son went to watch the Oak Grove game and only took $10. He came back disappointed because it was $20. I think they need to offer student passes or something. If adults want to pay the full ticket price and stay for all games okay, but kids, with no jobs, do not usually have access to that kind of money. Oh well, I do understand the predicament but maybe a per game price of $6.00 or a whole session price of $20 would have worked better. I bet they would have had more student fans there as well.

I agree $20 for an Oak Grove game would be alot, I think thats a grade school! Oak Hill on the other hand is a different story. (Just kidding with you)
cardsbaseball39 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) I attended all 5 games last night, and I thought the price of $20 was a really fair and good price for the quality of talent that was participating! To see three teams nationally ranked in the top 10 for only $20 is a bargain! To see so many Division 1 athletes that will be playing for major colleges the next couple of years was overwhelming. If you break it down each game only cost $4 so it was a great price. To watch Oak Hill Academy, Findlay Prep, and Christ School for only $4 a game was incredible! South Laurel did a great job with this hoopfest and I hope it happens every year from now on because it was a great experience! Edited January 26, 2009 by Ram Rule 13

MountainThunder Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I wish that the students would have received a discounted rate. However, it cost thousands of dollars to bring in these top notch teams. It was a top notch event and I will suggest that next year the students are given a discounted rate per session. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the games I got to see. Just top notch.

cardsbaseball39 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) Are you a student? Yes I am a high school student, but my hometown team (GRC) didnt even play in the event, I went with some of my friends. We drove a little over an hour to watch this event and it was well worth it! We all said that it was a great experience and we plan on doing it next year! :thumb: Did you attend? Edited January 26, 2009 by spindoc rule #13

Yes, I went, it was a great event, top notch teams and atmosphere. My ONLY complaint is the cost for the kids to get in. I talked with many NL & SL students who normally go to the games that didn't because of the high cost. It shouldn't cost a student $20 to watch their school team play in their home gym. They could have presold to students a discounted ticket and let more kids attend the event. JMO
