Did any of you who had asthma ever grow out of it? I did not. I'm 21 and am still fairly athletic and as I'm typing, I'm having shortness of breath and am wheezing. Nothing new though.

I didn't have asthma until I was 31. Maxair works the best for me.

Oh, I also use Advair. I don't like it much as it leaves the nasty taste of a crushed up pill in you're mouth...

What type of rescue inhalers do you use? I'm not to pleased with Proventil, since they did away with Albutorol.

 

I do like my Corticosteroids inhaler "Qvar" over "Flovent" and "Advair".

I used Proventil/Albuterol for about 18 years. My doctor suggested I quit 8 years ago. I don't have a rescue inhaler. I've had about 3 episodes that required a course of oral steroids, and I used Flovent for about the first 6 months.

 

My experience with Proventil\Albuterol is that it becomes a very real dependency. Whether that is physical or mental, I don't know? I know it's risky not to have a rescue inhaler, but I don't want to get into the same situation that I had with Albuterol.

You're right. It was Seravent that I was thinking of. That's the one I didn't like.

I believe I have seen you run cross country before. My son ran in class AA from 1999-2007 and now he runs at Lindsey Wilson College.

 

You may have I ran at Mason Co. All ways ran with my shirt in my mouth. My best finish was like 13th at Meet of Champions my SR year in a time of 17:52.

I can tell you from my experience that the yellow inhaler Proventil does not work as well as the Generic White Albuterol spray inhaler I used for the past 10 years. I was told that the sprays where bad for the ozone and that they did away with them. Now everything is an HFA, maybe thats the difference. My pharmist told me that right now there is no generic albuterol available yet on the market in a HFA type inhaler. An rescue inhaler (Proventil or ProAir), will last me 6 months or longer. I use them only when my Asthma acts up and is needed.
