Just out of curiosity, what has Jamie done to build the program? You either have the players or you do not, it is as simple as that IMO. It is great to see this team playing to their expectations and hopefully they can continue this run up through the regional finals. If I recall correctly, their only loss is to Manual whom I believe is currently ranked # 1 in the state.

 

Coach Richey is very engaged with the Middle School programs. Her involvement at that level has increased the numbers of girls coming out and staying with the program. If you through go each level 8th grade and up, this is the deepest the program has been. You're usually going to have athletes that could be good bball players, the key is to get them to play basketball. I think she has succeeded there.:thumb:

Back to the game. Coach Nell Fookes is worth the price of admission. She really did a great job of keeping her team motivated. Boone's lack of depth, especially inside, is an achilles heel for them. Congrats LadyBirds, get ready for Ryle.:dancingpa

Highlands has a bigger test coming up on Feb 3rd against Montgomery County. That should be a dandy!

Sorry folks, but with all the hype I expected a “whole” lot more.

 

The Bird’s got by a depleted ND team and hit 26 free throws, they slipped passed NCC at home, and a depleted Boone team was right with them or leading until late in the game. They won, but late free throws made the score look very deceiving.

 

Unfortunately, a great season record means “zero” in a few weeks. With the pressure of one-n-done (remember last year), the 9th region tourney is “completely” wide open. Lastly, if I’m a Bird’s fan, I would be very nervous about drawing NCC in the first round of the district tourney…at their house!

 

I couldn't agree with you more with your depleted analogy. Everyone knows depleted is defined as; to use up or reduce something such as supplies, resources, or energy. Against ND and Boone that's what exactly Highlands did, they wore both of those teams down. Highlands is the best team in the

9th region. Their record indicates it. That certainly doesn't guarantee a regional championship, but to say it's completely wide open might be a bit reaching. I personally think it will come down to Highlands and ND. They are the most consistant two teams in the region by far.

Who Highlands beat. As far as the district and region, I agree, nothing is a lock. I would think that if NCC gets a shot to knock Highlands out in the 1st round as HHS did to them last season, they will be jacked up to do so. Once you hit the regional anything can happen. I guess thats why they play the games.
