I didn't really think about Mt. Zion because they don't have any tournaments. BCI is really a tournament facility so that is all I was thinking about. You are right, the leagues there are fine and the facility itself is good.

Quality of teams for me... BCI is ok if you can actually play the age group that you sign up for... Our team last year, signed up for 13U tournament... Played some 12U and 14U (15yr olds) So it's been that kind of stuff that keeps us away. Played there last week and played a team that was supposed to be 8 grade, but everyone in the gym need better... These men were way above our boys...

Our team played at the BCI Middle School tournament this weekend, and again it was horrible. I don't know why we keep going back. The team we were supposed to play dropped out after their first game because of the officiating. They were afraid that their kids would get hurt. After our game today, I wish we would have done the same thing. We shot 6 free throws the entire game, while the other team, who was the much more physical team, shot 22. They had numerous "warnings" to the bench for cussing and yelling at the refs and they even benched a kid for cussing, but never gave any technical fouls to the other team. The game got really bad after that, with that same team tripping, pushing off, pretty much playing football, and nothing was done about. If they don't start cleaning it up, nobody will play there anymore.

 

By the way - that same rough team played yesterday and took out 3 of the opposing players in that game. Most of the injuries came because of tackles. I'm just glad our team made it out of there without any serious injuries.

This was 8th grade. Sorry, I'm really not sure how the 7th grade tournament is going. I really only watched the 8th grade girls and boys games.

There were 4 separate instances where automatic ejections should have occured for closed fist punches and not even a foul was called. Players from CC were bleeding and others were injured. The sad fact was this was a 3 or 4 point game in the first half. AB Combs came out swinging (literally) in the 3rd quarter.

That Hazard team should be ashamed. What a joke? This is the reason our teams wont even entertain BCI anymore. He may as well hang it up. Kids getting hurt because of a bunch of kids who cant control themselves and officials who dont know how to control a game.

Well, apparently the middle school tournament was even worse once our school was out of it. There was a player hurt pretty badly with a concussion or some kind of head injury and the abulance was called. I wasn't there but heard from some of the people that were there. I also heard that another player on the same team was injured as well. It is very unfortunate and I hope the kids are OK, but that's what happens when referees do not control the games and coaches do not control their players.

 

The saddest part is that the coaches of the teams committing these acts seem to condone it. Not once did I see players yaked out for their behavior, but rather applauded for their toughness. The fans were not great either. I actually heard a parent yell at his kid to take another player out. I just don't get it. This takes all the fun and passion out of basketball for those people who love and respect the game.
