Yes indeed she is very good and very smart. She coaches the game to her the talent that she has and makes adjustments along they way. They are extremely well disciplined and she can take a mediocre player and make them efffective. One of the things that I have always admired the most about her is how she gets her players to play within themselves and accept their roles. Yes, they have had till this year for as long as I can remember, a NCAA D1 type player but I am not talking about those players like Green or Gray. I am referring to the supporting cast for those types of players. You can have a great player but it takes more than them to win the region IMO. Those support/roleplayers get better when they are coached by her- you see much improvement from year to year and within the season. To me that is a sign of a great coach- to take a mediocre or one dimensional player and make them better. LeCompte is not your typical high profile player but has turned into a nice player for them. If you look back at her history, she has improved consistently over time and gotten better. That doesn't happen by itself usually.

I agree she does a great job but I feel they have the most talent in the region year in and year out. I realize this is a down year for what they have been accustomed to.

I think everyone would agree that Zimmerman has had top flight talent, and has always done very well with it.

Sometimes having talent on the team can be more problematic than helpful... not that I've ever known a coach who wanted to give his up to find out...

I would call Gray and Morrison impact players and they were on the same team. She is a great coach but I agree that Shelby and the other larger schools in the region have a talent advantage year in and out. A mediocre player for the larger schools is a star in the all A.

I believe 1 is at Marshall a Mid-Major conference, not starting and very little playing time, the other is at Transy a D-3 no scholarship school not starting the last time I checked but an excellient academic school I believe. Both are very good players and I like them very much, good kids.

LOL if Grey wasn't an IMPACT player then there are only a few per year in the state.

 

 

There is not doubt that Shelby County has had an incredible run in the 8th with lots of talent of the last few years. Maybe they are starting to come back to the pack this season.....

I wouldn't characterize the college the girls wound up at as determining whether or not the players were impact players or not...Raechele Gray graduated as one of top players to have played the game in the 8th Region ever... and certainly was an impact player, in my mind.

 

I would say an impact player makes a difference on the floor the first time he/she stepped on it. Gray fits that description. I don't think success in college or a scholarship at a D1 school defines the impact a player has in HS.

IMO - IMPACT players from last year included Gray, Lauren Jones of South Oldham, Hargett at Walton-Verona, Milam at Anderson County, Girdy at Carroll County, Beaudrie at Oldham County, Marshall at Spencer County, Tolliver at SK...when they stepped on the floor, their teams rose to a new level.

I would agree. I'm not saying those 2 were going to be WNBA players but those players are a rare breed. I would agree with those mentioned as impact players. I saw Morrison 2 years ago in the state with Shelby and thought she was a impact player when I saw her. Granted I didn't see her player more than 5 times.

I saw Morrison many, many times during her career at Shelby. She was a terrific player...but probably didn't become "the" player until her senior year. We're talking an awfully fine line here - but the other players mentioned were almost instant hits.
