Romo and Owens for Lions number 1?

Featured Replies

Brought this up in other thread, thought would see what other posters thought. Sign free agent Matt Cassel, trade Romo and Owens to the Lions for their number 1 and other high draft choices. Draft Bradford with number 1 for backup to Cassel, use the other draft choices to fill needs on line, etc. Not going to get Cowher, so go all out for Jeff Fisher of Titians for head coach next season.

You're not going to get Cassell without signing him to a long-term deal. That would negate drafting a qb with a high #1 pick.

Secondly, I can't imagine a team taking both Romo and Owens with their recent history of not being on the same page.

NO!

If I could package Owens and something for Calvin Johnson then I'd jump on that but that's about the only deal I do with the Lions. I'd trade T.O. a mid pick and one of their 3 backs for Calvin and a high pick.

The Pats also are in a bind because there are rumours swirling that Brady might not be back for the 09 season because he is behind due to infections. It will be tough to let Cassell go if it is an issue.

Never going to happen.

Absolutely know it would never happen, but would something like that be a good deal for the Cowboys. I think by getting rid of Romo and Owens' salaries, you would have the money to sign both Cassel and Bradford or Stafford. As for Coach, think there are only 4 names that would suit the Cowboys - Cowher, Holmgren, Fisher or Belichick

They haven't even fired their current coach yet...

And who says Cowher, Holmgren, Fisher, or Belichick would want to coach in Little D? Most of those guys would probably want to be Coach/GM...do you think Jerry Jones would allow that?

I cant envision any team building from scratch, that would want TO.

You answered you own question, if Jerry Jones fired himself as GM, think all 4 of those guys would be interested if the money was right

I'm not sure if all of them would be interested. Maybe Holmgren or Cowher...

Trading Romo would be stupid. TO isn't going to bring much trade value.

The only move Dallas needs to make is getting rid of Wade Phillips and 1) promoting Garrett to HC or 2) bringing in a new coach.

They just had a bad year...injuries didn't help and too much character/chemistry issues. They just need to learn from it. They still have a very talented roster with a lot of young stars to build around. I think it would be a good idea to get rid of some of the bad character guys...TO and Pac-Man specifically.

Why promote Garrett? The offense wasn't that impressive down the stretch for Dallas.

I wouldn't. But, I'd do that before I'd stick with WP for another season.

I'm just saying that's their options...and, I assume Garrett is an option since they signed him for so much cash and (I think) made him the HC-in-waiting.

Personally, I could care less what Dallas does. It's just my neutral opinion.

Guys like Wade and Norv Turner have proven they can't get it done as the head coach. They can't keep him there.

I love the way Romo gets all the blame when he's arguably the best player they have. He's a young guy. He isn't the first young QB to go through some struggles...Peyton Manning couldn't win the big one for a long time. Eli was a bust half-way through the '07 season.

If Dallas needs to get rid of any one player it's Terrell Owens. I think that would help Romo out big time.
