I read in the Harlan paper today that Harlan Co. lost to Grainger Tn. 58-56 in double overtime @ Grainger Tn. The interesting stat is that Harlan Co. only shot (2) two throws. I talked to a parent who was @ the game and they said Grainger Co. pressed most of the game and Harlan did not attempt a Free one until the 2nd OT. I have three comments to make about this game.

1.Is this a record for most time played in a game without a free attempt?

2. Did the other team never get a foul called against them when Harlan CO. was shooting?

3. Could a team really play that good of "D" without sending more than one player to the line? Just thought this was an interesting stat and other sports fans would find this interesting. Sound like a little home cooking maybe/maybe not?

I guess the out of state refs really are blind and def... :lol:

If you're suggesting the officials called the game in favor of the home team, how dare you? The masses will just call you a sore loser and let you know that you can't blame a loss on officiating. We all know that the players determine the outcome of all games 100% of the time. Unless, of course, it's the coaches fault.

I was not at the game or care who won really, I just thought this was pretty interesting.

Saw an top level AAU game this past summer at Spiece Field House where one team never attempted a free throw in the game and lost by 4. The other team shot 22 Free Throws and yes they were a spiece team.:lol:

If you don't take the ball to the hole, you're not going to shoot many free throws.

Sounds like a typical officiated game in Tennessee for a team from Kentucky

According to the paper Harlan County only took (7) three pointers. So I would say they took the ball to the basket more than a few times.:thumb:

“We can’t get these kids to do what we want, and a lot of it is showing a lack of pride and not being focused,” Harlan County coach Mike Jones said. “Coaches can only do so much. I’d take the blame if I thought it was our fault...There’s not enough pride there for us to come out and beat anybody. The last two games, we’ve played awful. If we don’t get out of this rut, we’re going to lose some more games.

 

“It’s taking some of our kids too long to decide they want to be aggressive and play a little bit.”

 

The Bears lack of aggression is illustrated by an odd statistic, especially for a Jones-coached team. Harlan County didn’t shoot its first throw until senior center Josh Caldwell stepped to the line with 27.8 seconds left in the second overtime.

Classic Coach Jones comments. He will break these kids down and build them back up and the Bears will be a tough out towards the end of the year. If and only if these kids hang tough, take constructive comments and work to get better. Only time will tell, Rome wasn't built in a day and the best is yet to come.
