What if, and all the buts, if West did that and McCreary did this, is junk. A one point win is just as good as a fifty point win. A win is a win, McCreary will still be number one in the region when they thump West the next time. Final word is Raiders still undefeated.

Agreed. McCreary played their worst game of the season tonight. Dixon, who had been a double digit scorer in every game failed to do that and fouled out early.

 

McCreary just wasn't running anything efficiently.

 

On the other hand, I would be ashamed to be a West Jessamine fan based on the coaches acts. He had his team hold the ball for over six minutes in the third quarter, and three consecutive while he screamed and ranted at the refs. Then when the game was called, the coach went crazy and started yelling and screaming and chasing the officials to the locker rooms only to be restrained by police.

You are absolutely right about this coach Southern Sports Fan. Last year at the regional finals against Lincoln Co. he and his players walked off the floor without shaking hands with the Lincoln players and coaches. It was a complete turnoff and the worst sportsmanship I have ever witnessed.

Sounds like somebody needs to teach a little sportsmanship to the West Jessamine basketball coach.

This game reminded me of the SW district game of last season, but obviously with a different outcome. This time the ball was in Watts hands and TO got called and the correct play set up. I thought Rob Jones done a good job in the final minute getting the correct play set up. I thought foul trouble to Dixon and Schrock really hendered the offensive sets to let West slow it down. Lets clear somethings up- living in Lexington and knowing the West Jessamine Staff I know some of the things posted are incorrect.

1. Last year regional finals- I actually was there- Coach Hammonds had his team stay on the court- when it was time to cut nets he personally went over to Coach Jackson and congratualted him again( along with his wife) and asked if cared they went on to locker room he didnt want to seem disrespectful at all. Coach Jackson told him absolutely that is what he would do also so he could talk with his team.

2. I was not at the McCreary game. But here is the take that I am getting from more than one source. West Didnt hold the ball for 6 mintues- both teams played some good Defense and McCreary went to a zone that stalled the game out in 3rd quarter.

3. Coach ranting during game- having seen Hammonds in action he is pretty mild to most but will get upset with his team and refs if he thinks his kids are not being done right- from all aspects seems the end of this game is much controversial. It is sad that the coach is put in a bad light when his job is too take up for his kids and his character has never been questioned before.

4. Hammonds was 12th region coach of the year last year so I am guessing he is respected by coaches and players in the region.

 

My take for what it is worth- A great High School basketball game. Each sides fans have thier take on the game. Both are passionate about thier school and both think they are better. Both teams have been major players and will continue to do so because they each have good players and coaches. If I am not mistaken I was told before West left McCreary Jones and Hammonds were in the back laughing and talking about the game. Before people print things about kids or coaches lets make sure we get the story straight. Great game- I hope they meet again- can only be good for the 12th region fans to see. If they do that means both are in region and both would again be successful.

 

I also agree that East, West and Mercer have the toughtest District- Wayne McCreary and SW are 2nd - Lincoln will be there and yes Garrard, Rock and others have a chance to cause some noise. Lets be proud that we have good 12th region teams that compete so hard against each other and lets stay alittle more positive and not be so much what have you done for me lately!

You can't comment on the McCreary game when you weren't there. If you think the zone slowed that quarter down, you're mistaken. You don't stand in the corner between the out of bounds line and the halfcourt line and just dribble for three consecutive minutes while your coach lets the refs have it because of a zone. Your sources must be complete homers if they think McCreary's defense kept the ball in West's hands for three consecutive minutes without a single shot.

 

And what award did Hammonds win last season? McCreary's Jones has been the KABC Coach of the Year the past two seasons.

I still don't know what award you are speaking of. I am not saying he didn't win the award or anything. I just know that Jones has been on the floor the past two seasons at Rupp during the Sweet 16 accepting the Coach of the Year honors.

 

I agree. Hammonds gets the best out of his players and they are very efficient. Whether you believe that much time was in the possesion of West or not, is perfectly alright with me. I know what happened - I was there.

 

Watts led McCreary with 20. Polson had 23 for West Jessamine.

 

In the first quarter, there was a combined 29 points.

In the third quarter, there was a combined 15 points.

It's just a shame that the game ended like it did--McCreary clearly fouled the West Jessamine player and the ref did call the foul--the horn hadn't even gone off yet. But the other ref waved it off--the game is 32 minutes long-not 31min and 59.7 seconds. If it's a foul it has to be called- a homer call for Watts.

That's right. West was hoping to gain posession of the ball and take the last shot to either win or tie based on what Watts made at the ft line. Watts did not have the foul, was #1 from West.
