I just don't think a guy should be exiled for one mistake. Like I said, the rest of his bad press has been related to team issues...missing practice, late for meeting, etc.

 

This is his first major incident outside of football that I can recall.

 

I'd be fine with a suspension with the idea that any future trouble could result in a banishment a la Pac-Man. However, at this point, I think some punishment mixed with some forgiveness would be better.

Didn't Pacman get like 6 chances before they considered banishment? I think Burress should be suspended by the NFL, after he serves his suspension for the Giants. I think if he commits another crime, that suspension should increase...

 

I'm not sure if I'd give him 6 chances like Pacman was given, but he doesn't deserve to be banished after one incident.

Should be out of the NFL? Possibly for a short term suspension, but not forever.

Secondly, I think mandatory sentencing is stupid and no one should have to automatically serve 3.5 years for committing that crime. I think that it should be up to the judge as to what the sentence is and there should be no 3.5 year minimum sentence.

 

Interesting thing I read this morning. Only 10% of the cases that go to trial for the crime Burress was charged with actually get convictions.

I don't think he SHOULD serve 3.5 years, no. That isn't that hard to figure out either. I think that is an absurd minimum sentence for a first time offender, and I don't care who the person is. Rich, poor, white, black...no one should have to serve 3.5 years of their life in prison for something like that, if it is their first offense.

I realize you might not believe me , but I mean in general.

He should be in jail, not the NFL...but I don't believe he should serve longer than Vick, whos crime was much worse. But I understand, different charges, different states, etc.

I would say with another NFL team.
