NewCath continues to dominate the second half. You can't turn the ball over that many times if you expect to make it to and win the state championship. They're defense is very opportunistic, but the offense has got to hold onto the ball.

NCC has been a great Closer this year. Their 3rd and 4th quarters have been dominating

They are without their top reciever, so it will be tough to get it going. Does anyone know when and if Escalante will be back?

After Lloyd got the scoring underway with an early 23-yard field goal by freshman Brandon Carr, NewCath’s Nate Rawe took the kickoff 79 yards to the Juggernauts one yard line. After a penalty and a tackle for a loss, NewCath quarterback Rob Kues scored on a draw play from eight yards out .

 

“They bit on everything and left me a wide hole so I took it right in,” said Kues. “It helped us out and gave the team a boost getting that touchdown after they got that field goal on us.”

 

Kues, who also added a 21-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, gained 57 yards rushing on seven carries. The senior only completed four of seven passes for 32 yards.

 

“Our defense has been the key for keeping us in games all year,” Kues. “They’ve been doing a great job.”

 

Ben Parr and Austin Siemer of NewCath each had first-half interceptions of Lloyd quarterback Dylan McGuire.

 

The Juggernauts responded to Kues' second touchdown run when Seydrick Walker, who totaled 167 return yards, returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

 

After a missed extra point, NewCath held a 14-9 lead heading into halftime.

 

That’s when senior Logan Ferrera delivered the backbreaker.

 

On the kickoff to open the second half, Ferrera caught the ball on a short hop and ran 82 yards for a touchdown, putting the Thoroughbreds up 21-9.

 

“We needed momentum and we had to get the game going. I saw the hole and I took off and ran as fast I could. Luckily I scored,” said Ferrera.

 

“It was a huge momentum swing. After I scored things, started clicking and we got on a roll. It was uphill from there.”
