BG 21 - OHS 14

 

Whichever teams wins, neither will get by the next round IMO. The Hoptown / Christian winner will advance.

 

I think I've read this somewhere before???? You must be from Hoptown!

With 6 minutes left in their respective games, Owensboro led by 22-0 over Central, Central's ball, and Bowling Green led 24-14, Central's ball. The only difference is that Bowling Green stopped Central from scoring and had a finishing kick while Owensboro started to falter. So, you can look at the 45-14 and 22-14 results and come away with a conclusion, but really, Owensboro did a much better job for most of the game than Bowling Green did. And Central never led the Devils for even one second, while Central held the lead for 13:36 against BG, up until the midpoint of the second quarter. BG had 21 points in the last 5:22 of the game.

Just like the old days.

You apparently did not see that Bryan Station the(#4 seed out of Lexington)

gave the Bluebirds all they wanted and Highlands won on a TD in the final minute.

 

So to say nobody has anything for Highlands is a rediculous assumption especially with Highlands having to play 2 on the road against probably 2 teams that are better than Bryan Station. Playing on the road sometimes things happen.

 

I am going to call this game a toss up though could go either way. I hope the Devils can pull this one off but this is not the matchup I wanted in the

2nd round for sure. I do not know how many players BG rested against Hendo on Defense but Henderson putting that many points on BG leads me to think OHS should be able to do the same it is can the OHS D step it up a level and play 4 FULL quarters of football?

 

We all know both teams can put up points but the key to this game is who's defense can step it up and which team gets points off turnovers or special teams.

 

 

 

Yes, I saw the score and my gut tells me that particular game was a fluke. Until I see it happen, I don't think anyone on the west has anything for Highlands. Not even my beloved Purples. Not this year. I hope I am wrong as I will pull for whichever team makes it out, but realistically, Highlands is the best team in 5A.

 

I definitely agree the Owensboro-BG game is a tossup.

I don't necessarily how much better Central got over the year, but that John Hardin game was a function of how good John Hardin is/was, moreso than how bad Central played, which they did. John Hardin was IMO the second best team Central played all year (behind Boyle County), and a big reason why I felt they would be the ones to knock off Bowling Green.

 

Central was not a great team. The reasons for that are mixed, relating to talent and use of that talent, and general attitude of the program right now. But they were better than they showed at times this year, and so when they played well, or at least respectable, it always looked more surprising than it should have been to those that were simply comparing scores. Grayson County and Hopkinsville were perfect examples. Grayson County they played different (read: wrong) personnel for whatever reason, and so they lost by 3 to a bad team. Hopkinsville they took a while to do so, but they eventually put in their original (read: best) personnel, and they lost by 2 to a decent team. People came away with the impression that Hoptown must be awful because they nearly lost to Central, when I felt that result was a much clearer reflection of Central than the Grayson result, where they essentially played with their arm tied behind their back. That bore out very clearly when Hopkinsville devastated Grayson County in the playoffs, when the scores would seemingly have indicated a close game.

 

That's why I feel that it's just incredibly short sighted for someone to think that Bowling Green will win solely based on the score differential, when it was clear to someone who watched both games that they were extremely similar, right up to the last 6 minutes. That's not to say I don't think BG will win, because I think they will. I just don't think it's because Owensboro only beat Central by 8.

 

 

I know it is short sighted on my part, but I wanted to weigh in and score differential is all I had. Watching BG's scores from Boyle County is all I have to go by and BG doesn't seem to be the dominant team from the last three years. I hope for a victory this Friday, but I could see them losing this week and it wouldn't surprise me.

I will say BG will win....It will be an early birthday present to me!!!( Early by 2 days!!) As far as BG not advancing past the next game...well, all I gotta say, hooaah, I am glad that you are a fortune teller! Seriously folks, this time of year there is no telling what can happen. No matter who wins or doesn't win, all the young men are winners! These guys are playing for the love of the game. These are just young men and we are all supposed to be adults...I think these guys act older and more mature than some posters are acting in a couple of threads!! I am proud of all the young men who are playing and like I said before...these guys are playing for the love of the game as well as to build great memories!!! Good luck to all.

This will be a great game. I still feel BG is the best team in the west but not as good as they have been the 3 years or so. BG will put pressure on the young Prince kid and force some turnovers. Good luck to Owensbore Im sure you guys will play hard but BG is the king of the west.

I will agree with this assessment for the most part. I will say BG wins 28-14. I do think that it has the possibility of being a much wider margin.

I say Owensboro in this one. I think they are really on the right track heading towards the finals. Not sure who they would face from the East since it is such a toss up.
