Obama picks Attorney General

George W. Bush has had the most "diverse" cabinet in history. There is no way that Obama can let that record stand. Holder's controversial record should have caused Obama to pass over him in favor of somebody whose record was not similarly tainted but he decided to make an affirmative action hire instead. The other two names thrown out for cabinet positions yesterday were women.

Obama is naming his cabinet by the numbers. I expect him to name a Hispanic-American or two to his cabinet soon.

Why is it called diversity when President Bush does it but it is affirmative action when done by President-Elect Obama?

Bush is a Republican and Obama is a Democrat. Duh! ;)

Can you list any scandals in which Secs. Powell or Rice were involved before they were appointed to their cabinet positions? Can you name others under the age of 75 who were more clearly more qualified than Powell or Rice to be Sec. of State?

I find it difficult to believe that Obama could not have found an equally qualified person than Eric Holder who was not involved in Clinton's pardon-fest to have named to his cabiinet.

For the record, I am opposed to appointing anybody to any position for the sake of "diversity." The best available candidate should always be appointed. I did not use the term to express approval or disapproval of Bush's appointments. When race and gender become critical criteria for filling jobs, then taxpayers get short changed.

I hope that Holder does a good job but Obama could have done much better (although Jamie Gorelick, who reportedly was also considered would have been a far worse pick.)

How stupid of me! I should have known. :D

I see one is right no matter what. One is wrong no matter what. :thumb:

Exactly. ;)

As there are many qualified, intelligent Hispanic-Americans, why not?

If the most qualified person for the job is Hispanic, then I agree - why not?

This is the ONLY reason any president should be putting anyone into a position in their cabinet.

Exactly - but many people seem to disagree with this common sense premise.
