Anyone have any input on the Boone County Schools? Will Cooper be a factor at all with new head coach Tim Sullivan?

This year and next might be a rough season in a way for Cooper. Coach Sullivan will with out a doubt prepare all of his kids for this season. In a few years, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cooper as a very good team.

Cooper should do better at Basketball than they did in football.

Considering Cooper will be drawing the majority of kids who would go to Conner or Ryle, I think in a few years they could indeed be a good team. Sullivan is a great coach and really knows how to get the most out of his players.

Give Cooper 7-10yrs and they will be a factor year in and year out. It will be a very large school with a lot of bodies to choose from. Sullivan is a great coach and will have them on top before he leaves.

When was the last time a Boone County school won a 9th region championship? Ryle in 2002, what other school in the last 15 years?

Cooper might be decent in 5 years, but they will be like the rest of the Boone County schools in basketball. Hard to have great teams when there are 4 huge schools in the same county. When was the last time a Boone County school won a 9th region championship? Ryle in 2002, what other school in the last 15 years?

 

Boone in '97, but I agree, it is harder to have good teams when the athletes are diluted among several schools in the same county. Scott County is lucky they didn't get a second public high school in the county that provides sports. Conner, Ryle, and Cooper are in growing areas, however, with new subdivisions being built and lots of families transferring in for work. Boone is now in a landlocked area with no new neighborhoods being built.

Boone last won the region in '96. Boone lost in the finals in 1997.

I believe that it hurts Conner. Ryle still gets the TC residents, which means they still have the money to support and keep their kids in the best post season training. Conner will be diluted, and I can see that Cooper overtakes them within the next 3-5 years. That's no disrespect to Conner, it's just that Cooper will rise pretty quickly.

All good points, but its hard to feel sorry for high schools with 700-800 boys to chose from each year?? Although not as important in hoops as in football, its still a lot about the numbers!!

Yes, small inner city schools are really at a disadvantage. It is all about numbers. I don't know how the male enrollment compares at the NKY schools. Boone was 21-8 last season. I look for them to have a better year this year and next. Not sure if this will be their best shot or next. Boone should have 1 senior and 3 or 4 juniors starting this year. Next year, they could have 10 seniors on their varsity team.

I have a hard time buying that argument. Using that logic, wouldn't Holmes struggle because of Dixie, Scott & Simon Kenton?

Smaller schools in general, regardless where they are located, are logically at a disadvantage when looking at 30-50 new faces per year vs. the four Boone County type schools who will see 200-250 new boys per year?? It could be argued that the inner city small schools may fair better in hoops, due to the games' popularity in the cities??
